Destructable universe

It's very cool... and i had an idea. What if you changed bases to send you to a specialized system, with just an inner dock. You cannot get out of this, but you can a) dock with the door to return to outside the base, or b) dock with the actual station to enter the base.

would this solve the problem of when you destroy a base with a player on it the server crashes?

As in, a really small system, that you can fly around in, inside a station? And you dock with the door, floor, etc? Cause that would be VERY cool. (What can I say - I've always wanted to be able to strafe the commodity dealer...)

Basically what you are talking about is creating a small system where you would use a jumphole or JG to enter the inside of the base (The small system) and then you can either dock with the base itself or go back to the system outside. Thsi would be the only way to accomplish what you mentioned. It would still be a system as far as FL is concerned, but would look like the inside of a stations docking port.

still- anyone know if this will fix the multiplayer thing that a destroyed base with a player on it crashes the server? besides the general and overall coolness?

I would think to prevent a server crash when a player is on a base when it is destroyed, that some trigger would force the players in the station to spawn in a station somewhere else..maybe another system.
As much progress as we've made, I think this would be a viable option when someone figures out how to force the player to spawn elsewhere.

Say for instance, some cheat detection software programs can automatically kick players to a "prison" system. Then if this is so, then why not write a program or script for the server operator that would force the player to spawn in a different system base?

i mean... the loadout of the base to a jump gate, takes them to a different system. then the base goes boom. when they try to come back, will it crash?

once again i wish for a bug free cmp importer... import the bases, delete all but the room, and done. alas no.

problems- it would fill up FAST if too many people docked.

solution- a base resize, which allows you to actually make bases where you fly room to room. you CAN make a one room base, can't you? (FLE user)

flak88 has destroyabl stations that don't crash the server. people on it can get out, but can't get back in until it regenerates 30 seconds later.
(it doesn't disseapear, you just can't dock ,and it drops loot)

sounds like a tradelane ring that can be deactivated.. if its working similar and stable it would be worth a try

well there is nothing special about that kind of destructible universe, as it is not really destructible.

Cold_Void did post a solution to the problem somewhere else, to establish real destructible and dockable bases and those bases would also not reappear once you press F1 and reload the char.

you're right; its not very elegant - however it works, and persists until the server is shut down, or forever if the cargopod-stations are removed from loadouts
