A few ideas

hi, literally in the last few minutes i've had two ideas. one i think will be brilliant if it works. the other would hopefully settle a dispute (but i'm not gonna post it unless people thinks its okay to do so. because it concerns a more balanced cloaking)
my first idea is this. atmospheric flight. i know it isn't possible ingame. but there might be a way to simulate it. i think if you where to make a 'system' with solid ground and make 'stations' on the ground which actually look like towns and citys you have a fairly good representation of a planet. then just hijack the docking rings and feed them through to this 'system' make the sky look like an atmosphere and stick the sun a loooong way out and viola! a planet of sorts

been done. And yes It is VERY neat. Bases like cities and in the air, a blimp which was really cool. somehow they did another thing, so that you could have boats which were AWESOME. they would putt putt around and not fly up, and somehow you could buy one and you wouldn't be able to either. It was incredible. very time consuming as in the mod there was only 1.

i can imagine.
still alot of planets on freelancer are similar.
you just need ground for:
developed ground planet (wit greenery and stuff)
terraforming planet
ocean planet

and i reckon the 'cities' can get away with being fairly pre-fab. after all, your not going to be looking too hard.

what? that had boats? get some cars as well. maybe even hover cars sos they could go into space. (man this could bring a whole new level of civilian rp)

it was an ocean planet... easy. flat, blue. Neat thing is you could use an edited thn script for the landing sequences if you keep the same base. It would be easy, just chop it in half. Need code...

Just had an idea! there are triggers in the later fl missions that transport you elsewhere when you get to a certain area. so... lake them at the system edges leading to the opposite edge and voila! a spherical system! also you could put the coordinates between whole numbers (5.6, 6.7) so that it isn't visible on the navmap.

Alright OP-R8R...
What maniac finally did that???

Post Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:58 pm

dear god... its beautiful... i am SO doing this... you could also make planets with no bases for those that were previously undockable. also, make a docking ring invisible and *poof* dock with planet you see yourself flying down... niiiiiiiiiice. Btw, feel its time to mention something i'm doing... a HUGE asteroid with lots of tunnels and bases (airlocks, rather) throughout. sound cool? also... a land base my freind made.

to anyone who's played final fantasy: look familiar? maybe with an asteroid on it?

OP-R8R IS GOD

i'm not a big fan of crossfire, What goes into it is incredible, but i just don't like how it all goes into one system, but other than that, it could bring a tear to your eye how much goes into it...

... that has been done in 2004 by ARGH with his great
"Warriors of the Sky" mod.

Think the latest version can be found here:

It´s free o use for modders, which give proper credits
as the WTS CCN team did and incoporated this stuff
as new starting system.

the idea is based on arghs wos but i did tons of improvements to make it more realistic
you cant fly up into the sky and graphical errors were prevented
water is animated
realistic skies (depending on the planet)
more environments
less code errors

there was even a version which changed some physics (but it was dropped because it was not compatible with multiplayer)

I have to say, OP-R8R, THAT is impressive. Good work.

Have you tried adding scenery to the landscapes?
If that turns out to be outrageously large, MS Flight Simulator got by that aspect
by making the scenery as a .dll to the main landscape.

Post Fri Mar 23, 2007 3:51 am

the scenery is pretty small due to the fact that i didnt have the time working on 3 mods, one own game, LR, the SWAT-Portal and playing clanleader and serveradmin at the same time

its just one planet... a starting concept which i wanted to extend to many more planets
