FLModel Cloner woes

Hi guys, i tries using the FLModel Cloner about a year ago to clone either ships or icons and i couldn't get anywhere. Recently i am trying to clone icons. I have about 60 to do and again i don't seem to be getting what i need.
Hopefully one of you lot can give some advice on this. I know there is the help file on how to clone a model, but it still dosen't help me to get to what i want.
The task
Starting off with the model cloner part i open up an existing icon and change the entries from:
VMeshID=data.equipment.models.commodities.nn_icons.commod_consumergoods.lod0-112.vms
VMeshRef=/ <--Not sure about this one
(Material)=ID=0xF84CE9C9
to..
VMeshID=data.equipment.models.commodities.nn_icons.Gun_br_auto_shotgun.lod0-112.vms
VMeshRef=/ <-I've tried either leaving it "/" or renaming it neither have worked
(Material)=Gun_br_auto_shotgun.tga <--Should this be converted into a different format?

Then, in UTF..
1-Modified the material library>Gun_br_auto_shotgun name.
2-Modified the string entry inside the Gun_br_auto_shotgun name.
3-Modified the name of the texture in texture library.

In game it shows nothing at all. I'm guessing i need to change the texture name in model cloner to a different format, but which one?
As usual, any help would be appreciated.

(edit)
I have tried using CRCCalc to change the Gun_br_auto_shotgun.tga into its crc equivalent, but still no show.

Not to worry, i've got the hang of making icons now. It took Osprey's very helpful tutorial available from the download section.
I will be having a go at cloning a few ships at a later date, but for now, i'm all ok.

The model cloner is okay but it can leave you with completely busted clones if your not careful.

I don't use it for icons as I prefer to make brand new ones rather than rehash existing ones, Colin's 3DB Exporter makes it a breeze to create them as it comes with an icon template and a settings file.

Ships can be a problem as some times the cloner messes up the component parts ID's, these can be fixed in UTF edit most of the time, but occasionally they get corrupted and become useless.

I don't know if it's just me but the damage parts don't clone properly at all, both hardcmp and freelancer CTD with them. I've taken to doing them the hard way to get them, modelcloner for the reference, a Hex editor, CRC Calc and utf edit to swap textures.

**shuffles of with a new headache**

Cheers for the tip Bejaymac. I've been wading through the icons so far, but unfortunately i seem to have at least 210 or so to do and now that i know i can clone them, i'll most likely be adding new ones too.
I might even release the icons i make as a release in the download section.
