Disabling the brackets

Is there a way to remove the little boxes (brackets) around the ships you encounter? I want to make a movie using Freelancer so I would like to see just the ships flying around.

I have found where I can increase the transparency of certain mouse/cursors displays. In the mouse.ini file on the color line of a Cursor entry if you lower the fourth number (in my example it's the last 255) the symbol becomes more transparent:

[Cursor
nickname = arrow
anim = arrow, 1, 0
hotspot = 20, 18
blend = 4
color = 255, 255, 255, 255

But I can't find anywhere in the game files that controls the brackets around the ships you encounter. What might I be missing?

Also, it would be nice to get rid of the trailing arrows of the target sight while in mouse flight. But I can work around that by steering with the keyboard, so it's not as crucial a thing.

Thanks!

Edit: it works great! absolutely outstanding! Thank you so much for the help!

Basing your doubt upon what exactly? Nothing? assumption? your egotisical thoughts about how much better you are than others?

That's how your posts read at the moment, and it doesn't reflect well at all. Kinda sorry for being sharp, but also fed up with seeing such comments being made for no reason whatsoever.

However, would it be possible to release the altered files (assuming it's all dll's that are changed) as an FLMM mod, to provide a quick and easy mod for others to use to remove all of the little hud parts? I am sure many would appreciate this to make their movies, OR to change how they currently play the game by getting rid of all that extra helping cursor stuff that they may not like...

Just a thought

There was a mod which removes all HUD, but it had some limitations. It was somewhere in downloads section.

Yea I think Cold Void released a screencapture mod but Im not sure if it also disabled the brackets around npc ships..

There is a mod in the downloads for this purpose. It removes all hud's for screenies and movies. I will look for it.

egotisical thoughts about how much better i am????
so lets see... being member of the lancer community for 6 years now and helping others all the time is egoistical?
helping ppl which want help here on this forum is egoistical?
supporting LR either with money, knowledge or offering help when it is needed is egoistical?
to what do you refere? the fact that i said that i dont care about FL but about this community or what?

i cant see how a single word i have said can be egoistical in a single point.

and i cant see how my statement that i have doubts about what was said before can lead to a view that is is meant egoistical or anything else
this here is still an public forum where i can point out my doubts and thoughts whenever i want as long i dont break rules or attack other persons just like you did now

and my posts reflect just one thing... the pure truth
i did post what i had to say when i was trying give some critics on how things were done here such as the "gravedigging" that was not allowed on LR and which blocked many good ideas
it had to be said i and said it no matter if you didnt agree with that or not at this time... and if you have a problem with that then deal with me in private instead of attacking me here for absolutly no reason
if you have problems with me being here and writing my thoughts (which turned out to be true in the past) then just say it and ill leave LR
one thing i have learned, i wont post suggestions on how to improve things here on LR again and i wont try to help LR to find a better future than "death" when FL is gone

as to my doubts:
there are mods out there where this "no hud" mods cant be activated
and there are mods out there where hex-editing does not work due to the fact that those files are protected
therefore to make the textures transparent is the ONLY way to guarantee that
not to mention that to find a hex value is pretty hard to find if you dont know where and for what you need to search while a texture can be changed just in a few mins

lolz things just fly apart when little ol me doesn't chime in with a linky ;P

the no HUD screencapture mod WILL activate without any problems, regardless of what it says about conflicts. nothing in the mod overwrites a critical file - that would be bad, considering that people might want to use the mod online

alternatively, if you just want to play without target brackets you can open buttontextures.ini and delete/disable the tex_shapes HUD_targetingelement, and HUD_talkelement. this is another way to disable them that i found, instead of resizing 'stretch' in mouse.ini.

"but i really doubt that" - sounds like sage advice to me :/

to my knowledge there ar at least 3 mods where you cant activate the "no hud" mod because of a md5 hash check that is done when you launch the modded game... the same does happen if a dll is going to be edited... it could be that there are even more mods were it wont work

Post Sat Jan 06, 2007 10:07 am

why don't you help the community out by making a universally compatible build, since you know everything about the subject, obviously.

*cough* can't 'activate' because of the md5 hash check? since when does flmm check hashes? no, i understand what you're saying (i think) -you mean you can't connect to a server, because it detects a cheat, or perhaps FL crashes because it can't find a DLL reference? 1. afaik, neither version of FL's EXE files hashes mouse.ini/ cameras.ini /hud.ini. 2. the included DLL only removes 'turret view' text - it can safely be removed, i probably should have thought to mention that in the mod. overall, its not perfect and there's room for improvement, and you have my express consent to do so at your leisure, so have at it
