Explosion_resistance doesn''t work

I've found that explosion_resistance doesn't work,does'nt mattr if it's more or less then 1.
I've set hit points of the npc guns to 100,exp_resistance to 100,and first missile i launched destroyed them.
And with hit_points = 20000 and exp_resistance = 0.0001 they seem to be indestructable with missiles.Any ideas how to work it out?

Counter to its name, explosion_resistance is a damage multiplier. If you set it to 0.1, then 10% of the damage from the explosion will be dealt to the piece of equipment. If you set it to 100, presumably 100 times the normal damage would be dealt.

And a question now.
If gun has 1000 hit_pts,and I want it to endure 1999 explosion,I have to change exp_resistance to 0.5?

Yes, that's correct.

As for how I know these things, I've been modding this game for well over two years now. It mostly comes down to experience, and when experience or TLR don't provide the answers, a lot a patience.

Yeah. You'll find that most of the 'question-answerers' here just got all of it from asking those same questions and doing on-their-own investigations.

fix it with XVI32 -open common.dll and replace "explosion_resistance" with "explosion_multiplier" same number of letters therefore it won't overrun so it' should be ok then you've just got to replace all those instances, which ultraedit does nicely with replace in files

not sure if its working, as i need to set up a test scenario but i did the same thing with hp_thruster (changing it to hp_aftrburn) and it works

and why afterburners? turns out you can mount thrusters directly to the engine hardpoint.. and i located some unused afterburner effects that are like little engine jets instead of smoke
