Hi everyone!

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Sun Oct 01, 2006 10:03 pm

Hi everyone!

Hey everybody,

This is Alcander here, if anyone actually reads this .

Long time no post, eh? Yeh, sorry about that.

I've been feeling quite guilty lately for having left the scene so long and disappearing, leaving many unanswered questions and unfixed problems. I felt a lot of you deserved an explanation as a well as an apology for my disappearance and lack of response.

Several things conspired to stop me from developing new things for Freelancer and improving the previous ones, namely:

1) Real Life.
-Yes, I know this excuse is overdone but it's true. I went off to college and everything went haywire. Free time became much more sparse and I had to budget my time better.
2) The Problems
-The problems in my various mods that I released that I couldn't quite pinpoint that cropped up on various people's platforms that I could not replicate left me perplexed. As well, some of the community's responses to some of the mods weren't what I was hoping for leaving me unmotivated to work further on them.
3) The Interest
-I lost interest in Freelancer due to a combination of #1 (lack of time) and #2 (the problems). Since you can't very well mod a game you don't have time to play or motivation, projects stagnated.

That being said, I hope to salvage some time in the coming months to help decode ALE files like I promised, and reveal other nifty tricks such as moving Nav Map text positions and the like and hopefully much more. I won't make promises, and I won't release broken patches. I'm going to test things out fully and flesh them out and do it right this time around.

So if anyone is reading this and if anyone cares, know that I'm still around and I'm trying to get back into the fold. If any vets are here reading this, please reply and let me know who all is still around!

See you in space!

-Alcander

i'm still here, although i abandoned the freelimits board months ago - anyways i'm glad to see you're back, and btw i think perhaps half of the error reports were false indicators, except for the server-hangup problem. getting the ALE files cracked(more) to the point where we could design brand new ones would be awesome in my opinion also, have you seen Dev's hex-address list in the tutorial section? goodbye LOD and scanner limits! weeee!

Has anyone actually heard from Alcander lately?

Actually, I just e-mailed him two days ago, and got a reply today. He said that he lost interest in Freelancer, but has lately been getting an urge to restart it. I say that we can expect to hear from him soon.
