Shielded Jumpholes

is it possible to add the shield normally around the nomad city to a jumphole?

I would probably say its possible via loadout/hardpoint alterations, but, if you want to stop people being able to get through a gate, they can always ghost dock they're way through it.

I do that to the dyson shield surrounding the abandoned city in sparta of the void mod to hide in there hehe.

What I would say is, maybe give it a normal shield with the effect of a dyson shield, but maybe give it maybe 100,000 energy, with a very quick recharge, and have an admin weapon or something that will kill the shield instantly, long enough for someone to get through.

At least I'm assuming thats what you want the shield around a gate for... an admin system or something.


EDIT: My bad, didn't notice you actually meant HOLE, hmmm, as a jump hole doesn't have a loadout, I'm not sure how you'd actually do that. You'd probably need to create some kind of invisible object inside the holes location that would enable you to add the abive mentioned shield to it (maybe a small weapon platform?) thus creating a shield around the hole.

At least thats the line of thinking I'm going on.

ok, so i could do this to a gate. now how would i set up the shield generator to have the massive size of the dyson shield? or would i just have to use the dyson shield/copy of such? problem with the latter is that you cannot assign a shield type to it and have to use brute force to punch thru it instead of making one weapon with a type that does like 9999999x dmg to a certain shield type.

Not too sure of the dyson shield bubble, but, I have seen it used with ships on the void mod.

I think you need to create a shieldgenerator item that points to the dyson shield bubble, instead of the regular ship shield bubble files...

Or something like that anyways hehe

on a completely unrelated note, since this didnt work (and this idea's better anyways), how would i go about making the jumpgate inaccessible to people not friendly to the faction that owns it? i know that it's been done before, i've seen it.

That hardpoint is for the jumphole effect isn't it? I'm assuming you meant to just add another equip line for the same hardpoint? That wouldn't cause issues right?

Could you add this line to a unique solararch entry?

Is the shielded hole for an admin system or something? You could make the shield a unique shield type and make only admin weapons effective against them.
Other than that, if it is for an admin system, you could just put a heavy damage minefield around it so that only admin ships can pass through.

well, it's for clans. each clan that recieves their own custom system will have a clan-access-only area in it where their clanship is kept, and any other things need to go there. both the rep fix and the shield fix work, but it might be more convenient to have it with the reps than shield, because it eliminates the need for a special weapon to open the gate. however, i am needing an answer, so suggestions, ideas, and solutions are appreciated for both ways. but DO NOT ask me for sys, etc.

also, can you make it so that only those green to the gate can pass thru, or is it only if they're hostile they cant pass?

Green to go thru is the obvious choice and red to everyone else ditto, we did this in the Galactica Hellgate 1.2 mod for our admin system and it worked really well, no stray souls could enter. Code is in there but would take ages to explain...

just something to think about if you made a gun or something like a weapons platform that is allied with you (i dont know if this is possiable) then anything or anyone that is an enemy to you would be shot at and if the guns are good enough or there are enough of them you could accuratly keep them from getting into the jump hole ... something that i did for trade lanes is made a missle that wouldnt die off for like 10 min or something like that and then shoot at the trade lane till you miss and if the missles keep seeking the tradelane they will fly around and around till it kills something or dies off ... or if you want to be the only one that can use it place objects around the gate that bigger ships cant get through or place a heavy debris field asteroids or even mines that would be funny place a neutral mine field around the jump hole ? then sit back and watch the fun with no status change i like the the gas type mines

Ok, another possibility, use flshell and give clan members the name of the hidden restart command. They will spawn inside their home system, buy their ship/equipment or whatever then when they have it ready they jump through into normal core space.
You could have indestructible weaponplatforms of a crazy high damage guarding the jump thing. I don't think you can block hostile players from using jumpgates or holes (unless you have found a way around this). I've always beeen able to pass through regardless.
Did you want them to have constant access to the system or is it just for the starting of new characters? You could make a one way jump thing that spits them out and does not allow access to the system at all.

i know there's a method of making jumpgates "care" who passes through them (ex. no hostile players/npcs), i just don't know the code to do so. i've seen it done in another mod, but havent the name of the system to look at the code for it.
