SP progression editing

After fruitless searching of mods and forums, I have a question i need to ask. I know some of you may scratch your heads about my idea, but try and bear with me: I'm a little disappointed by the relative lack of SP mods out there that really ENHANCE the original FL. The best that I found was the Discovery mod. Don't get me wrong, there are some other really good SP mods out there, but they either don't have the same polish, offer too many +500k ships, or simply make things too easy. The one thing about all these SP mods I've seen is that I find myself progressing much more quickly through the SP storyline than I should be. I have to make a conscious effort to NOT accrue too much money just so I don't constantly have Juni harassing me about doing another mission for her. I'm sure we all felt like we were being forced into progressing through the SP campaign faster than we liked the first time.

My request might seem trivial at first glance, but if we really are all here to make FL a bigger, better game, I feel that my idea has substantial merit:

Basically, stretch out the game a little by increasing the wealth required to gain to the next level. I've seen some mods do this, but then they also increase the cost of ships. This seems counter-intuitive to me. It also seems silly to spend 5million on a ship just after Trent was lamenting about losing his 1 million credits (mind you, that was suppose to set him for life). Perhaps a simpler notion instead of tweaking the amount of credits required, simply make the mission scripts so that you only trigger the next mission every 2 levels you gain in rank.

Essentially the reasons for doing this is two-fold: 1)it breaks up the nearly rapid fire SP mission assignment...and making the experience last slightly longer... and 2) it gives you a little breather time to explore and such before destiny comes knocking and tells you to save (the universe, your girlfriend, yourself, whatever). I guess I'm just really irritated that I can't have my proverbial cake (cool custom fighters) and eat it too (even progression and still challenging SP)

I wonder if its possible to make this a stand alone addon mod so you could apply it to your other favorite mod. I would do it myself if only I knew how.

Ok I've been reading about how to edit files to tweak the economy, but I still can't find where you edit the amount of money required to level up. I just need to raise the requirement and I'm all set. Can anyone help?

The leveling up is handled by missions/ptough.ini

[PlayerToughnessScale
ptough_graph_pt = 0, 0
ptough_graph_pt = 16000, 1<--level 1
ptough_graph_pt = 19750, 2<--etc
ptough_graph_pt = 26228, 3
ptough_graph_pt = 30845, 4

There is a maximum though of level 38/40 on SP, you need to have the server run the official 1.1 patch in order to get higher.

Does anyone out there know how to fiddle around with the main storyline missions?

I want to find a way to 'repeat the main storyline missions' over after completing them for the first time so that i can continue playing Freelancer without having nothing to do except flying around kill'in beat'nicks for scraps

e.g. I finish the game at level 18, after reaching level 20 I get the call from Juni to start doing missions for her in liberty like the game suddenly restarted.

Probably not possible, ive looked through the main story missions and it looks pretty hard pressed to 'crack that thing open'

Try BigDaddy Storyline Mod V1.2

It SP oriented, and very tuff. You may like it and you may not, it is for hard-core Freelancer players. It has a lot of nice equipment added to it but not out of place.
It heavily favors the AI to be more realistic in fighting, and I have fought harder AI in my mod then most of the people I meet in MP. That is what I wanted a great MP experience in SP.

Ok, just a little (edit- not so much) update:

I took a look at that PTough file and tried fiddling with it. Unfortunately, I think that only changes levels for multiplayer (unconfirmed) as it didn't seem to affect SP at all even when I pumped it up to like $300,000 for lvl 3. It seems to me that the levels in SP are actually script based. Meaning you trigger an event when you get 'X' amount of cash and that leads to the next mission. Now I've noticed a few full mods that have somehow managed to change these scripts, but I don't think PTough is it... unless I'm just retarded and I'm doing it all wrong..lol.

BTW flybyu, I REALLY like your mod. I tried it out early on when I was looking for a good SP mod. To be honest I can't remember what I got hung up about it. I do know that I kinda got addicted to Harrier's chaingun (the tamer more balanced version) so that might have been what eventually led me astray to look at other mods However, I still remember liking a lot. I'll need to give it another look and get back to you on it.

In fact... not to sound like some kinda of... prick i guess... but after spending an ungodly amount of time just downloading and trying out different mods over the past couple of weeks, I feel i could write a freaking guide about Freelancer mods. Seriously, if you guys haven't made something like it already, I would be happy to write a mod review guide. I would probably start with the more popular and more creative mods first. It certainly would help people in finding the mod right for them. God knows most won't have the patience I had to peruse the ENTIRE list of mods on LR. I could also seperate them into more well defined categories (namely theme based for the vast starwars and startrek junkies). It would also certainly be good for the growth of the community. Sadly, I was kind of late in finding FL. I only just bought the game two months ago (ok... REALLY late ;p). I feel like I missed out on the time when FL multiplayer surged with activity.

Anyway,... flybyu...
I would like to ask you some questions (once i remember what they were) concerning your bigdaddy mod. Would it be better to just leave a reply here or email you?

Same goes for Chips, Crabtree,... and... crap... any other modder regulars here that I can't remember now.

ok, apparently it wasn't the lure of chainguns that pulled me away, flybyu, as your mod has them as well :b

You can E-Mail me any time just click my profile and you will have my e-mail address, I like hearing about the imbalance of my mod, especially when it comes to the AI being to tuff LOL!

I am trying to make a mod that is more of an RPG/Action shooter not like the old FL use to be. You know if you really wanted to you could finish the storyline in well I did it in 7:52 that is very fast I think, and no, I do not cheat, as I have to have a challenge or it is boring to me. Of course, my version 1.2 is much harder then the one I send to TLR as it maybe to hard for many of the old vets, also I wanted it to be much more fun this time through, many changes were made from v1.1 to v1.2.

I am now into HOI2, and DSO, but I want to make a few more mini mods for FL yet, as I cannot seem to find a game that will or can replace it. I am addicted to this game, it has not been off my hard drive for over 2 1/2 years now, and I love this game.

Somewhere buried in content.dll are the numbers that set the money needed to activate the next SP story mission... StoneD published them here 1 year or more ago... If I can find the post or a backup I'll repost the info here.

@Magnus: did you already look into Argh's ToolKit Mod ? He has done quite a lot of your ideas and has very well documentated what he has done.
Here is the 1.2 version .
There is the 1.3 (final) too, but only finished at 90% here

Agree Argh's ToolKit Mod is a great way to go on.
