This is diffinatly what Im looking for: Click here

I know the buildings dont have textures, but thats not of any real immediate importance, the important part is getting the landcape texture looking right in-game, Im not worried about it being mountainous as flat will do for the mean time.

Only questions I have left are

A: What applications am I going to need to do this?
B: What formats would my texture and buildings need to be.

A) The same program used to build ships and stations in the mod anyway... i.e.

Gmax (or any other 3D construction program that allows export of file formats to Milkshape).

Milkshape with the CMP and Mat Exporters.

Model Tool (as this is essential for adding the model radius on large models and adjusting Sur files)

A good image editing program for textures (most use Photoshop, I use Ulead PhotoExpress though and Paint).

A DDS converter to get your TGA files smaller.

UTF-Editor for any changes within the UTF you need to do.

The SDK for decompressed ini files.

Notepad to edit the ini files.

Freelancer Mod Manager for building the mod within and activation and deactivation of the mod.

CMP and MAT files will work fine using either TGA or the much better compressed DDS formats for the textures. Either this, or you can build it as a 3db which essentially is a CMP and MAT file combined (in the simpliest way to explain it).

Ok thanks for that...

3D Modelling - I use 3DS Max, but I will download Milkshape
Model Tool - Never heard of it, so I'll examine that tonight
Image Editing - Photoshop CS2 all the way
A DDS Converter - "Scratches Head" I'll get to that point later
UTF Editor - "Scratches Head" I'll get to that point later
SDK - Ah yes! now that I have
Mod Manager - I use it regularly, but never built a mod for it.

Im in for some research this week I would say

Ive spent far too long comming up with cool ideas and even cooler spaceship 3D Models, its time I start learning how to mod myself I guess. Besides, this is a good enough idea to generate the will power.
