Why Freelancer crashes if entering to new system

I'm talking about mod, which is made by someone else.

For me it will always crash to desktop when I have an active mission (campaign or job board) and I try to enter to this system.This crash won't happen if I'm in money earning state in campaign. It will only happen if I get enough credits to level up. Then I get message to meet someone in somewhere and a nav path, which directs there where the next mission should start, is marked to my map.
Ithink that this first nav path is somehow the problem.
And freelancer manages to autosave, but it will crash if I try to load it.

I have found two ways to bypass this problem:

1) If I edit (this systems file) -file, so that there is only 9/10(I don't remem. which)or less jumpgates in this system, fl wont crash. It dosen't matter which jumpgates I have left there. Originally there is more than 20 these jumpgates in this system.

2) I edited mission (m0x) files so that they won't display this nav path.

####################################

Here is how I edited m02 -file: (example)

m02 -file before

[Trigger
nickname = entered_the_system
Cnd_True = no_params
Act_NNPath = 22210, 22210, dock_ring_Li01_01, Li01

m02 -file after

[Trigger
nickname = entered_the_system
Cnd_True = no_params

####################################

What might be real reason for this kind of problem?

systems_shortes_path.ini seems to be OK.

What's the mod called.

It sounds like someone's screwed up the Story and either haven't tested it or made the mod for Multi-player only.

its pretty simple
mission 1 and mission 2 (the time between those missions) were meant to take place in NY only
the gates were locked because of this
now there is a gate which is not locked... you went through... the mission itself said now "ola FL you were meant to stay in NY what are you doing where ever you are? I cant live with that any longer... *suicides*" ^^

I don't think thats the problem. If you play a mod like Rebalance you could pop off during the story and do missions in another system.
I'd say that the illegal/legal paths are screwed. Is the jumphole/gate from New York? There's a maximum amount of jump objects for a system and New York is set to the maximum. It happened to me when i added several extra jump holes to sigma-13. It didn't crash straight away, but during missions it sets a best path and used to crash at the return loot part.

if you say so
but its still true that you never were meant to leave NY in those missions and that the missions are written in a way that does cause this crash

I've never had the crash in another system or traveling from a custom system while doing the story.

There is a well known and documented issue by Giskard with the maximum amounts of jumpgates before crashes just occur. You may have exceeded this drastically.

Apparently he found there were maximum amounts of objects allowed too, and going past this led to Freelancer just not rendering them all in game (ie as he added more, others disappeared instead). I've never tried either of these, but Giskard was always thorough.

I understand that I wasn't meant to leave NY during the first missions.
However this crash will happen in later missions also.
Mission 6 is now furthest that I have managed to reach.
And this crash will only happen if trying enter this system where is large number
of jumpgates. During the first missions I can go everywhere else except this system and it won't crash.

I have now edittet m2-m6 -files so that they won't display nav path if I'm
in this system and it won't crash anymore. I have done it so that if you are
leaving from some system nav path is disenabled and when you enter to target
system it enabled again except if you are in this problem system. This approach is toilsome since you have to do different entering triger for all systems in this mod and in some missions there is two navpaths (m3: first to manhattan then to Ca.Minor).

This topics idea was to find to simpler solution but clearly this bug isn't in this mod but it's in FL game itself. Something weird happens if game tryes to greate nav path if in system where is large number of jumbgates.

AFAIK, the paths are determined by the "systems_shortest_path" and other related ini files, and if it cannot find a path, then it will simply say "no best path".

If it's missions related, it could be attempting to target a certain objects nickname, like a jumpgate in a system as a nav point. If it doesn't exist, it would crash.

I dunno what you've done, and it could take months of forum posts to try and ascertain the issue. If it only has issues with tons of jumpgates, then I'd just stick to Giskards claim that more than a certain amount = crashola (it could have been Reynen who found this out, or Michael Dan - its just that I heard it from Giskard). Other than that, try running FLScan on your mod when it's activated, and see what it pulls up.

What I have learned is that it's majorly beneficial to keep doing backups every few changes, by just creating a zip with numbers for the different revisions, that way you will know roughly what is causing the problems ...

I've been able to keep error free doing that.

It saves a lot of trouble, by taking little effort, but when you just can't figure it out I would think its maybe best to build the mod from scratch, I always seem to think of new ideas when I hit certain points doing things like that (I used to mod Halo PC).

What I have done is diffucult to descripe with my poor english.
Perhaps I could put here what I have added changed in m3 -file for an
example. If someone is intrested.

Just now I have internet connection only in school so replaying these posts may
take some time, sorry.
