Making things different colors... SPH files

I want an SPH file to be a different color (black, to be more accurate) than the ambient color of the rest of the system. I've tried putting lights with a color setting of 0, 0, 0 around it, but to no avail. Perhaps it is something in the TXM file? I say this because the blackhole that comes with the game is similar to what I want, as it is always black, no matter what. It has a 3DB and a TXM, and that's it.

I was able to change a planet's color quite drastically by changing the ambient light. Maybe that'll work for you.

Matt how are you with UTF_edit and DDS textures. You will have to make a texture and edit an sph, mat and txm to get it to work. MAT & TXM files are the planets version of a CMP's MAT, the MAT holds the material library while the TXM holds the texture one.
I'll post a how to here once I've refreshed my memory as it's been a while since I last worked on planets(never did get my jupiter to work with a SPH file).

A little teaser is this what you want Matt

Oh, I have that, no problem. The problem comes in with the fact that my system ambient light isn't (0, 0, 0) aka black. The supposedly-black ball turns blue. Meh.

Simple question but do you still have an atmosphere in the SPH, MAT and TXM, the one in the picture doesn't as I removed it from the files, the light could be shining of the atmosphere turning it blue.

No, I removed the atmosphere. What else could be causing it?

I'll send you the files I made to get the picture and you can check them against your own to see if theres a difference.

Sorry to bring back this topic, since it was answered over a month ago, but I'll put the answer here so anyone else having the same problem can get an answer. In my solararch.ini file, I had declaired it to use detailmap_ocean.txm, while in the MAT file, I used detailmap_rock01.txm. Making the two the same fixed the problem and made it black.

Incidentally, I've found a rather useful tool that converts one picture type into another... including DDS!

Mine is called DDS Converter 2. I got it off of a Star Trek: Elite Force 2 website. You know, the ones called yadda-yadda-files.com.
