some kind of hyperspace

would it be possible to add a tunnel effect to a ships cruise engines (for use with a warpdrive to make it look like hyperspace) like when you have the cruise active you get a ring of light( tradelane or jumpgate) around the ship while its activated?

i'm trying to build something like this but no luck so far, i did manage to crash out alot but if any of you have an idea please let me know.

Hmm there is nothing to see

Hmmm, I'd like to try that too, see what can be done ... would be interesting but I'm thinking other players would see the effect around the ship maybe ... who knows...

You wouldn't be able to see where you were going either

Be intersting to give the ships the burn effect that you get going into a planet, for a cruise effect

How would we go about doing this?

I'm assuming each ship has a more or less different cruise effect for the engines, which we could swap out for a trade lane effect or some other effect?

ok i know its been a while since i posted on this one and i didnt try some stuff for a long time

but as to the point you wouldnt see sqat thats the point of it seeing you enter tradelanes seeing that the way is clear so instead of tradelanes you use hyperspace routes and you augment the thrusters to act as cruise drives.

this giving an complete diffrence to the gameplay seeing you will have to rely on waypoints alot more than seeing around you (this will make navigation during long distances difficult but after some trying its doable) since the speeds will be extremely high when in hyperspace you cant get shot but you cant fire either nor navigate since then you will probably eat planet....

well i took a few months off of modding fl so im gonna try some more with this starting now if anyone has had a lead since then please let me know.

yours sincerely,

You could try modifying the ALE effect for the cruise engine to create rings around the ship, but you would have to figure out how to make it invisible to other players. One idea I experimented with years ago was to create new tradelane models that were completely invisible and place them all over the system and players would use the auto-waypoint system to get around.

About abovementioned rings: Liberty Cruiser has got one of those (coming out of engines). Maybe they can be made bigger to be around the ship.

can i contribute another suggestion? as the cruisers engines are animated, couldn't you make a similar effect along the lines of starlines? also the tradelane effect you see the entering atmosphere effect on other ships, that would be a good thing to present instead of a ship vanishing into far away. how does all that work?
