3D modelling and texturing forum

There is a thread by Drizzt about how to model ships, from start to finish - threads on importing, texturing, etc.

There are also lists of programs, 3dmax, rhino (or something), although most use milkshape (as you need it to import anyway). Milkshape is powerful enough to model (30 day free trial), and only costs about $20 for a full license anyway.

I assume you mean modelling and texturing your own ships. For that you'd need a 3d modelling program. I recommend Milkshape 3D for that. It is a fairly easy program to use and comes free for 30 days, you can also buy a $25 (USD) lifetime membership. Others here would recommend GMax . While GMax is free, I personally prefer Milkshape, but it comes down to style I suppose. Milkshape is also useful for the import/export/plugins (including CMP import and export, CMP is the filetype that Freelancer uses for models).
