mod organization

alright, ive been posting alot lately because im curently working on a TC, and i have a question for mod teams and people who work on tc's:

when you work on a mod, how do you keep track of the files you've changed? like when you done with a mod, how do you know whats the reguired files to be put in the download package?

lokua,

Firstly.. to keep track of things that are changed I build the mod OUTSIDE Freelancer.. is a separate directory on C:\ drive
Then I create the new major folders:

\data - for your changed files (in the appropriate directories)

\exe - for your .dll's and any executables.. ie (freelancer/server.exe's with a changed version number) and configuration files

... An edited script file so flmm will recognise it - in the mod root directory

Then copy the files you want to edit into directories you create in (mostly) the data files.. you will however need to add lines to some of the files in the exe to 'configure' freelancer to 'accept' your files

Best way is to grab a mod off lancers.. - feel free to download Epsilon Mod - and take a look at the structure.... however, respect other people's work.. dont rip it off, and where you find a good idea.. pay credit.... it costs nothing and makes everyone feel warm and cosy

Once you have built your mod OUTSIDE Freelancer, copy the contents to flmm under the mods folder.. then fire up flmm.. Provided you have done all the 'lil' bits right.. it should recognise the mod.. then disable any active mods fire your's up.. and begin....

Crash.. big deal.. disable the mod, find and fix the problem, enable the mod.. etc.

Oh - and when you modify and save .ini's they get a brand new modified date that helps heaps..

a bit simplistic I admit ... but hopefully it will help.

not that it matter, but i do this:

i make the required folders on my desktop "modsname\data\etc" and then copy and paste the files im editing into those folders, then merge the folders into eachother in the correct order (data moves into modsname etc), then move those into FLMM's "mods" folder, then make a shortcut to the main folder of the mod on the desktop, and work from there
