Cruise Speed showing up right...

How does one make the cruise speed show up properly when altered in Constants.ini? I've searched, and found one or two references to it, but they both didn't say how. Could someone either link me the info, or just put it here? Those newbie threads are getting deep and searching for "cruise" or "cruise speed" turned up a lot of nothing, really.

Thanks in advance

Hi!

First, for having the cruisespeed showing right, you need to edit the exe. However, as the normal exe is not editable, you need to get the cracked exe and edit this one.

So, if you have the cracked exe, you can open it up with an Hex Editor and do the following:

- Select "GoTo" and go to the following offset: D5936
- At this location, you will find two bytes, 0F and 85. Change them to 90 and E9.
- Safe the edited exe

This should make your cruisespeed show up right.

And if you want to have the tradelane speed show up right as well, do this:

- goto offset: D5984
- there you will find the byte 7E. Change this to EB.
- safe the file

Hope this helps!

I understand a budget Freelancer has been released that also uses a (100% legal) unprotected exe. If legality concerns you then seek it out

Edit : of course tampering with said exe is not exactly legal but tolerated

Hrmm, for whatever reason my .exe already contains 90E9 at offset D5936, but the cruise speed doesn't show up properly. Well... not in the regular game (it did in Freeworlds, which I was just playing, but I assume they have a workaround in place).
Also, offset D5984 is set to bytes 52E8 without my touching a thing, no sign of a 7E (although that E8 looks suspiciously similar - from a visual standpoint - to EB, which leads me to wonder, should that second byte have originally been 7E?)
Oh well, I'll live without it, just thought it was a little odd.

Is yours a no-cd? if it's the original exe it is wrapped with copy protection code and you wont find the bytes to change
