Millions are dying at Manhattan

We have the XTS Battleship Encounters version 1 server side mod running on our server and are constantly having entire battlegroups running right into the planet or coming too close and having ships destroyed. This looks very bad for the navy and is causing the loss of millions of lives not only on these ships but on the planet below. It's not at all unusual to see a Dreadnought half buried in the oceans of Manhattan before it erupts in a massive explosion that must be affecting the climate and wind patterns on the planet's surface. In the name of all that is holy, please let me know what settings need to be changed in order to reduce this happenstance.

Also, is there a setting for frequencies of encounters? I'd like to have them appear about once a half hour instead of every 3-4 minutes.

i would guess the solar_radius is too small

or the group is too big, you see when the end cruiser in the group flys into the planet the rest of the group have to turn to face the sasme way, and so everyone dies...

The problem with Capship encounters is that they aren't thought out to well, Capships are large, slow and very bad at turning, they need wide open areas not stuck beside a planet. The size of the formation is also part of the problem, as its usually the center ship that get a path to travel along with the rest just tagging along with it, so if the path happens to run near a planet you get carnage.

There isn't a timer on encounters so you can't have them appear every half hour, they work in percentages so its possible to turn there appearances right down.

Open Li01.ini and search for this line:

nickname = Zone_Li01_001_Planet_Li01_01

This is the population zone for Manhatten, tagged onto the bottom of this zone will be something like this:

encounter = capitalships_Liberty, 19, 0.200000 <------
faction = li_n_grp, 1.000000

The 0.200000 tells the game that this encounter has a 20% chance of happening, change it 0.010000 and it has a 1% change. Just don't change it to 1.000000 or you'll give your CPU a headache as the total sum of the encounters in a zone can't be greater than 100%.
