Editing ship models

I'm thinking of removing the unused hardpoints on the BW ships, but can't figure out how to open the cmp files. Any suggestions? =/

By the way, removing unused hardpoints won't affect the skins, will it?

Use HardCMP, which you can get from here or EOA's website. It's very useful/speedy for such things

HardCMP won't let me select the unused hardpoints. :<

... you're sure they're valid hardpoints?

Or are they "physical" parts of the model, itself? If so... um... then you can't do that, without doing it in 3D. Which is theoretically possible, but not something that you could do without a great deal of modding knowledge.

Yes, they're part of the model itself. Maybe I can flatten the hardpoints in Milkshape?

It's not quite that simple, unfortunately. You'd be losing the collision groups, etc., and the ship would no longer break up like you're used to. You'd also have to use FLModel Tool and fix the SUR, so that the ship would behave properly.

Fixing it completely would take a lot've work with Colin Sandby's new CMP Exporter plugin, which supports Groups much better than previous exporters... a task that, quite honestly, I'm not really qualified to guide you through, because I have yet to mess with it that thoroughly myself (I always seem to have something else to do, hehe).
