Thanks Lou, I will download and try it out with the latest test mods once I have finished rebuilding the data files.

So has anyone found this to be useful?

I have just retired from Freeworlds and Freelancer Mod Development, but had full plans to implement it into the forth coming Freeworlds mod. I am ensuring that this passed onto the correct people in Freeworlds development for Freeworlds 1.66 shall need it thanks Louva.

I have actually created an exe version of the Colours Elite mod that literally copied the entire contents of the Freelancer folder into a new folder called ColoursElite. It then installed the mod into this new directory and placed a shortcut to it on the desktop. The beauty of this was that players need never change mods cos they use the Colours version on my my server and the original Freelancer with FLMM on other servers.

It worked perfectly for 80% of my community but for the others it was problematic due to installing in different locations, using Win98 etc. etc. I scrapped it and resorted back to FLMM but with a little more work, like scanning the host machine and finding things for itself, or asking players to point the installer to the correct location, it would work.

I never got round to continuing with it but I may do one day. I used InstallShield to do it and wrote a script for copying the freelancer folder.

Well, since we are talking about this topic I suppose I can offer what I suggested in my Freelimits Dev Forum: What do you think about a method where a mod folder (named say Rebalance for Rebalance Mod) is put in the Freelancer folder, then you specify the mod to load by a setting in Freelancer.ini and it loads the INI files and such from that directory - if it can't find certain files it would default to the Freelancer directory.

This way mods could be installed seamlessly on one Freelancer install without having to have multiple installs for each mod on a system.

I haven't tried implementing it yet, but it should be possible. What do you guys think?

Sounds great to me.

Alcander, depending on how you wanted to set it up this could completely replace FLMM, or could use it as a launcher/mod switcher. You would probably want to check out the source from our FLIA project for building the scanner to accurately detect all parts of a mod.

Hi and sorry to bring such an old topic back, but I am interested in creating an installer that would copy existing FL files to a new folder and than install the mod on top of it. or and I don't if this ones possible but have the installer ask for freelancer to be installed but under a new directory and then install the mod on top of it.

Thanks ahead of time
