First of all...

1. Explain your problems with details. If I say "My mod doesn't work!!! HELP!!!111!!11", do you really think someone can help me out?

2. Try looking into TLR (Tutorials and older posts) for answers. Newbie Questions is I think a good start.

3. Make sure you didnt do any spelling mistake anywhere, and that you did each and every necessary part to completing random missions.

Hey Magnet, i could give u a hand if ur in a fix. What is the problem? You said first that your missions don't work, then said about patrols?

Could you post the entry for your patrols? I'm not really what you mean by missions not working, are you talking missions from base, original story missions or new story missions?

The typical mistake for patrols is its path label, like this..
[Zone
nickname = Zone_EW15_path_Imperium15
pos = 2893, 0, -19635
rotate = 90, -73, 180
shape = CYLINDER
size = 750, 16117
sort = 99
toughness = 13
density = 5
repop_time = 30
max_battle_size = 4
pop_type = attack_patrol
relief_time = 20
path_label = Imperium_02, 2<-------------------Each path must have a unique name. In this case Imperium_02, the next number is the cylinder patrol pop zone number. If you have two paths with the same label, its a crash to desktop on launching/jumping in.
..
encounter = patrolp_assault, 13, 0.050000<-----Make sure you have the encounter stated at the top of the system ini file.
faction = fr_imp_grp, 1.000000

Meaning, you need to have:
[EncounterParameters
nickname = patrolp_assault
filename = missions\encounters\patrolp_assault.ini

Also patrols can be a bit of a bugger if you try to do things like "attack this base", its better to use an encounter where the job leader will attack bases and just use an attack patrol.
Hopefully something here has been of value. If you could post what you need we should be able to get it sorted.

well, im using FL Explorer from this site to make my sytem and thats how i made my patrols. the patrols i have are attack patrols but i dont have them attacking anything. thats how ive been making my systems and patrols.

So what isn't working? Are you getting them spawning or not? It is better using ambient pop zone rather than patrols. The only real value to paths is to reveal jump holes and pirate bases.
FLExplorer is very good, but it can get a bit confused with the patrol paths. The problem is if you add multiple paths of the same faction it can get the path labels joined together or uses multiple path labels. If u like u could post a bit of your system. Maybe we can find the prob.

I think you mean you don't know how to do Random Missions at all except from their patrolpaths, right?

Post Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:20 pm

YES EXACTLY! I know NOTHING about doing missions. everything else I have figured out.

Ok... I'm gonna try to make a "resume" of everything to making Random Missions.

I might forget something, everyone feel free to correct me

So, you have Patrolpaths. Good.

Now you need to make a Vignette Zone with an unique name. This is an example :
[zone
nickname = zone_li01_destroy_vignette_1
pos = -23536, 0, -52599
shape = SPHERE
size = 10000
mission_type = unlawful
sort = 99.500000
vignette_type = open

Your patrolpaths MUST at one point pass through these if you wish to get missions.

Remember, you will need patrolpaths for ennemies (So the patrol is defined for the bad guys), and if you wish, patrolpaths for allies (That will then act as reinforcement in some missions).

So you should have a Vignette, ennemies spawning and maybe even allies.

Now, to mbases.ini :
I suggest you to read about mbases.ini in TLR. The entry you must define in there will not only activate Random Missions, it will also be your ONLY way to put NPCs into your bars and dealers.

I will only concentrate on the parts needed to make Random Missions work. You will need to define the whole mbases.ini entry by yourself. You can use existing ones, but remember to change the names!

[MVendor
num_offers = 8, 12

This defines the number of missions actually possible to take when you click on the Jobs Board.

[BaseFaction
faction = li_n_grp
weight = 13
offers_missions = true
mission_type = DestroyMission, 0.000000, 0.112387, 30
npc = li0101_lnavy_001_f
npc = li0101_lnavy_002_m
npc = li0101_lnavy_003_f

This is a typical Faction defining entry in mbases.ini
It tells the game that the faction is existing into this base.
The bold entry is what is needed. When there is one in a BaseFaction entry, it tells the game that this faction will give missions here.
The 2nd and 3rd values are what define the toughness of the mission.
To understand what it means, check Diff2Money.ini
[Diff2Money
Diff2Money = 0, 1800
Diff2Money = 0.082100, 2200
Diff2Money = 0.112380, 2655
Diff2Money = 0.205130, 3219
Diff2Money = 0.351000, 3919
Diff2Money = 0.480490, 4792
Diff2Money = 0.657740, 5887
Diff2Money = 0.900380, 7264
Diff2Money = 1.232530, 9001
Diff2Money = 1.687200, 11201
Diff2Money = 2.309610, 13994
Diff2Money = 3.161630, 17551
Diff2Money = 4.327960, 22093
Diff2Money = 5.924540, 27904
Diff2Money = 8.110100, 35356
Diff2Money = 11.101920, 44928
Diff2Money = 15.197410, 57246
Diff2Money = 20.803740, 73118
Diff2Money = 28.478239, 93597
Diff2Money = 38.983860, 120051
Diff2Money = 53.365002, 146192
Diff2Money = 73.051361, 190050
Diff2Money = 100.000000, 247065

As you can see, "0.000000, 0.112387" will make missions giving 1800 Credits up to about 2655 Credits.

Once you defined alll of this, alongside with correctly making the mbases.ini entry for each of your base, you should get Random Missions

(I am warning you that this is only from memory and the SDK, I might be forgetting something)

Hope this helps,
FF

EDIT : Oh, also. I would suggest you to check your Signature code, it looks like it is broken. Maybe bp totally fixed it, I don't know

One trick that you can try is to copy your neww additions to the top of the mbase.ini file rather than the bottom. Mbase is the kind of file where if you muck one base up, all of the ones after that will not work regardless of whether there's any problems with it or not.
Other than that, its easier to get missions working with tradelanes nearby. Try to keep vignettes close to the base, try a mixture of law, unlaw and unlaw, law and unlaw, unlaw depending on who you want fighting where.
If you have added any new factions, make sure the initial_world is making them hostile to their enemies. Any changes will mean deleting the restart.fl and starting a new game. You can't use a previous saved game..
