Mech in FL?

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:36 am

Hmmm... idea....

I'll build the model in the appropriate formats, if needed I'll keep Leave it in seperate parts, or as a whole, then maybe we (as Lancerreactor) can see if we can get this done properly, Don't worry I'll work on the textures, I got all the skillsand tallent to get some of this done but not the experiance

hmmm

this could work...

Gonna repeat myself... go read my Tutorial on custom Weapons, and how to make ships, etc. before proceeding with modeling. Just trust me on this... if you haven't done this before, you don't want to start with the model and then try to make it work... that's just a recipe for frustration, no matter what you've done before

FL animation isn't done in a format that we know what to do with just yet- if you can make practical, that'd be great.

I'm pulling every thing apart boss!

Reading and studing, no woriies, I'm not the type to go any where with out RTFM first...

Well So far I got the actual mech made

I think that it might be PRETTy heavy in polygons but we will have to see...

Just one question......

what pose shouls I use.....

I'm also thinking of doing Mecha from Steel Battalion I'll put up pics soon!

Well...

1. The mech design should have areas to plug in the weapons and head. Given that these moving parts are going to need to turn, etc., those areas need to be designed with some care.

2. It should probably be posed for flight. Depending on the mecha, that can mean different things, of course

Weeell

I got the steel battalion design done

What I've done is that I kept the origional (many pieced) frame that I did in Gmax

and kept the designs in a static pose...

Texturing at the moment...

If any one wants to give me any suggestions or tips they are welcome (thanks Argh! )

And these are going to be UTERLY unique to FL...

oh and I noticed that in normal Fl that when you eject cargo the back of your ship (I noticed it on the Dagger) the cargo pod at the back opens up...

I dunno there might be some thing we can use ther right?

Make the head moveable?*Pounds head* I need to learn how to model...I need a Wing Zero.

Post Wed Jul 20, 2005 4:19 am

eh?... :?

Maybe the head a hardpoint. with a 180 degree turning radius forward so that it could follow your cursor. Haha, equippable heads. That'd be cool. Make all different kinds so that each clan could have its own signature one..

Well this could be the begining of a whole new wave of modding

LOL

Wouldnt it just be easier to just place a mech on top of a ship?
like, kinda riding on it? (if anyone has seen gundam seed, then you'd know)
I suppose you should just make them upper torso\head\arms into custom weapons.

Post Thu Aug 04, 2005 1:54 pm

In my eyes the best way to go about this is make a new weapon (Face shaped)the eyes can be where the ammo is shot from the whole head could be the weapon like a large turret from a battleship but head shaped

turrets are movable thro 360 deg so in other words the head would be turnable 360 deg too

job done

same for arms use a gun that looks like a arm also turnable like a turret but only 180 deg turning

legs can ce part of the ship hull sorry torso with engine hardpoints in his/her feet

I never tell the truth but that was a lie

K this is the thing I'm busy, creating a custom Gun basicly, and actuly making it a unique object to the mech (similar to the custom turrets in other mods)

also I'm not a gundam fan, More of a heavy gear, vandread fan, But, I need a texture artist BAD....
