Yet another crash

I don`t think i'll ever truely understand computers. They are supposed to be pure logic, but it really dosen't feel that way.
My new problem, in a seemingly neverending string, is that i hava a problem while undocking from almost all bases. I could undock a few days ago, but while i haven`t made any major changes at all, the system seems to have finally had enough. I know that there is a thread on how to solve crashes that Chips has (very kindly) posted some time ago, but i didn`t see what i needed on there.
I have a testy system, only one base, one pop zone around the bases which i use for testing encounters and look for any problems. I can launch from there ok.
But, if i try to OpenSp spawn from Br01, Li01, Ku01, etc.. It CTD's before i see anything. I've gone through my changes since the last backup and the only thing i can think of is that i have added new factions. Which i have had working fine 95% of the time ( the other 5 being an occasional crash which i was going to sort out later).
I have been sloppy/cocky in that i rarely get problems that i can't sort out, so i have been backing up very rarely. The last one is about a month old.
If i could just pinpoint which aspect of file is the problem i could get it sorted. If the worst comes to the worst i could manually add the changes from the last backup.
I thought i'd ask here first. Does this sound familiar, does anyone know of a crash which is selective in where you can launch from?
I have tried using FLScan, i dosen`t like working on my system, some "cannot create activex" type error..

Try checking your encounters, they are a personal favourite of mine for being spat to desktop on launch. If you haven't edited any of the system ini files, then possibly you've accidentaly moved or deleted an encounter in the Encounters folder.

**shuffles of with a new headache**

Dunnit! Well, thats several hours of debugging for a very stoopid mistake. I had used GC's ships in another faction as well, then i modified GC to have more ships and didn't update the entries in faction_prop. One day i'll learn..
