Combining Mods

Wanted to ask a general quesiton about the principal of combining mods. I've been working on pulling parts from variuous mods into a "hybrid" mod on my own LAN server. I am a bit worried about upsetting the various authors / groups who developed mods and wanted to solicit some views about what I'm doing.

I would be willing to distribute the mods I am building to do this but do not want to do so unless it's OK with the original authors.

FWIW the approach I'm using is to make them modular i.e. all done via FLMM scrips and therefore no hard coded IDS_NAMEs etc.... which would potentially make them work with many mods.... with minor adjustments.

If you want to do this then, you have to ask around every single mod developer that you have used something from and get their permission. Then you need to contact every shipwright and get their permission, this would include ships are are in mods which you already have permission for. Then, if all of these are accepted, its fine.
Thats alot of emailing

Very simply, we mod-makers would like credit, at a minimum. According to the thread describing our rights as modders, we hold copyrights to our work (which is exactly as it should be). We can give those rights away, of course- my general mod releases almost always include a line like, "feel free to use this in any mod" or whatnot.

At any rate... respect the modders who made the creations you're using, and respect their right to share in the adulation you get for making your hybrid- it wouldn't be possible without them
