Modeling Program

Does any of you know a good modeling program which I can use to create my so called "first" custom ship?

I would really appreciate if you could help.

check out the Freelancer 3D Modeling and Texturing Forum for more suggestions, but I'll tell you right now, you will need Milkshape 3D to do the final conversion for use with FL. It's shareware, but it leaves a tracer on your hard drive, so you can't just uninstall/reinstall when the trial period is over.

Another modeling program that I've used is GMax (by the same folks that brought you 3D Studio Max). It's free, but they do ask you to register.

To do the exporting, you'll need to find the relevant files, all of which are here in the downloads section. I think there are a few posts with links to them in the modeling forum linked above.

3dsmax and Maya are good for modelling almost anything
anim8or is better for more whimsical fanatasy stuff
FormZ is nice for specific models and geometric architectural stuff

on a somewhat related topic, nVidia's meLODy is a really nice tool to use too.
