WTS has alot of star trek ships in it....

Yeah I know, they dont have the detail that most trekkies would like to see though, plus there not a whole lot of choice.

This will be a 90% trek dedicated mod with the other 10% being used are races that live in new systems. It should be well worth the wait

Doncaster - any news / updates on this ? I have been doing some work on my own private LAN server mod, which I've been adding in as many star trek ships from other mods as I can find. I'm not going to make the server available on the internet for fear of upsetting the originators. What I wanted to do though was offer some limited help with coding ships .... I have some useful recent experience with coding ships / weapons / shields etc. I've also done some faction work .... managed to add the borg to my server and made 'em hard as nails

Let me know if this is still an active project and if I can be of some help.

don't get me wrong, I like star trek, but is FL a good port for it? I mean the smallest ship I know of, the Defiant, has a crew of like 46, or 42 or something like that... It just doesn't seem to fit into the FL universe. Besides would the UFP like some captain using his ship for profiteering? Or are the ships stolen or something? I just don't get it.

A lot of the star trek ships fly well in Fl. I like the perigin-the maquies rader from DS9 the best, But, flying the borg cube is fun too.

Bear in mind that Star Trek has a vast array of ships, not just the big star ships you often see. Smaller shuttles, Runabouts and even fighters (the Peregrine Fighter for example, which looked simalar to the Marquis fighter but was actually the Federations main assault fighter. The dominion and Cardassians also had fighters and lots of fan built models since then have expanded the database for potential fighters).

Just because the Freelancer engine is designed for profiteering, doesn't mean a Star Trek mod based on the Freelancer engine needs to as well. There are ways around that (for example, RPG based TC's, off which there are a couple for other universes already out there). And don't forget the Ferengi who are always after a profit. So there are solutions.

Personnally, I think it is a good idea. But to get it right will take an aweful lot of work, testing and balancing. You are talking about a TC going to the same level in Star Trek as the Privateer and Star Wars TC have already achieved. Working on one of these myself, I know it is no simple feat and I had the lucky end of the dealer with a lot of work having gone into the mod prior to myself joining the project. I would really like to see the final out come though and see what ships are put in there.

Question Doncaster, are you going to put the ships and stations in the mod to scale with one another? And which timeline are you setting it within?
