sur problem Please help (solved!)

Hi Black Eagle here!

At first a general question: How are sur files assigned to a cmp? Just by name?

Now my question:
I have a big problem with a new ship I made. At first everything works well in SP with the NPCs. But in MP there is an error.

The new ship is a clone of the Anubis with better stats. I also changed the cmp a bit (only that a hardpoint can't rotate 360 degree) and renamed it from or_elite.cmp to ap_elite.cmp.

You can see the ship in the Monkeys 1.1 (The Anubis MK2). In MP against NPCs everything works well you shoot them and the shield goes down. Then if it is totally down the hull is damaged. BUT, If the NPCs shoot a player, who is flying this ship, or he is attacked by another player (pvp) the shield goes down and then the projectiles are just going through the hull, doing no hull damage!
It's just, as there were no sur file for the ship. BUT, if you fly to another ship or a station, you can't fly through it. So there seems somehow to be a sur file, right?

Now one question! At first I thought I could solve the problem, by copying the or_elite.sur and rename it to ap_elite.sur (See the general question at the beginning). But this does not work. I now have the ap_elite.cmp and the ap_elite.sur and the ship is still taking no damage if flown by players.

So two things.

1. Do I need to have an ap_elite.sur, or is the game able to assign the or_elite.sur to my ap_elite.cmp which is nearly the same as the or_elite.cmp?

2. How the hell can I get the sur file to work properly. In pvp the hull of the ship should be damaged and the projectiles should not fade through the ship. How can I fiy this?

Please I can't immagine how to solve this problem. So I need your help!

well i'm not sure what happining you, but yes the .sur and .cmp have to be the same name. i'm problem is a diffship altogether whhen i launch!!!

as to this problem the only why i can think of is to run FLModtool past them, apart from that i don't know what todo

If you`ve used the model of the anubis and added a new shiparch entry oyu should be able to use the same cmp file and sur file as the original. Just make sure you add the new shiparch nickname to mshipprops..

Okay, thanks guys!

I solved the problem! In SP everything went well, but as I said in MP it won't work!

The reason was, that my friend, who run the server only had the sur file on the server and not in the downloadable mod. But as sur files cannot be serverside this was the problem!
