AI-Controlled Turrents?

This is one I have been pondering over for a long time now, although im not sure wether its possible but I'll talk about it anyways.

Is it possible to have user controlled ships with bot-controlled turrents? We already understand that their are a alot of stuff in this game that has AI-turrents, for example - Space stations, Docking rings etc.

It would be nice to have either all ships, or only a certain few, with computer controlled tracking turrents, it would be handy for traders who would rather run, than fight.

Well, as I say - not completly sure if possible or not but just thought I would share the idea. Too many ideas running round my head concerning this game now >.<

@zack lyons, thats not intirely true... i shaw a detailed post somewhere of how do do just what hes asking for... (((if he means turrets that lock on and and "auto-fire"))

Well yes, the ability to create AI controlled turrents that tracked, locked and fired by themselves would be a nice little addition to the game. If this is possible then it doesnt suprise me, what would however suprise me is wether or not you can have BOTH AI-Turrents and Manual-Turrents for if this is true then you have effectively made a whole new class of weapons for the game.

I've seen countless threads about this, and the answer is that NO, you cannot make auto-targeting and firing turrets on player ships. There's a line in some ini file, "auto_fire = false". Changing that to "true" for player weapons has no effect. It's been tried and tested.
