Sounds Sounds Sounds !

Hi guys,

Man, I just realized that in order to make the mod I want I need new sounds. I finally got the hang of everything (three long days of non-stop studying) and made a great system but the in-game sounds ruin it.

I made a great faction called the "Zuros" but when I hail them they say "Xenos" (of whatever faction sounds I used), and the same goes for the planet/system names (jumpgates, trade convoys, landing, etc.)

I'm wondering if there is a good program where you can type stuff in and it will make a .wav file, like a speech systhesis program. Maybe I can use that ?

What do you guys think about the whole thing involving the sounds, it sucks for modders doesn't it ?

Take care.

the best thing to do is to find some1 who work with sounds and have some exp in the field

but if u want to try on ur own ull need a program like : Dance Ejay

Or if u would rather have them not say anything you could just remove the msg_id_prefix lines. They would still fly normally but wouldn't say what faction they are in and such.

Uh... the sounds for Conversations are in the RIFF sound format. You can extract them from the UTFs using the UTF "extract" feature, and record new RIFF sounds and then import them in.

In short... it CAN be done. Easy? No! The RIFF format uses file-compression for a large number of sound files, which are then encoded in "chunks"... gaining quick playback for a "chunk" and very good compression rates. So you need to know about sound editing and the peculiarities of the RIFF format to do this. But it can be done.

Use Sound Forge 7.0 and make you file there....convert it to RIFF and then import it. (Assuming you CAN import SFX in the UTF)

UTF doesn't seem to care what data types you import... it'll import garbage textfiles if you tell it to (I should know about garbage hehe)...
