issues with creating new suns

I'm trying to create some new suns which are very large, to match the very large systems I'm putting them in. For example, I'm trying to put a sun that is 69000 radius in a system that is 750k radius. The problem is that when I load up the game and test it, the sun looks gray and seems to put out no light until I get to within about 250k of it. Then there is like a "curtain" effect which gradually comes down and the sun looks as one would expect. I have screenshots if necessary for people to see what I'm talking about. If someone knows how to fix this without editing the .tga or .txm files, please let me know. Thanks.

Yes, I've noticed this as well, and it's rather annoying. I believe it may be a similar problem to why beam effects disappear after a certain distance, which is something I haven't figured out how to solve yet. I'm guessing there is something somewhere that controls how close you must be before the effect will show up (analagous to LOD ranges in a sense), but I don't know for sure. So, if somebody does know how to fix this problem I am also most interested in hearing it.

If you test some of the original suns some of them do not have that curtain affect, they simply fade with distance.

i know wot u mean... in rebirth (my mod) all of liberty is rolled in2 one massive system, but the suns look dim until u get within a certain range, as do the nebulae and stuff... the curtain effect is FL's way of coping with the massive systems... dunno y they do it, but they do...

I was dinking around and I found out something else interesting: planets show this "curtain effect" behavior as well, as in any part beyond about 250k won't get displayed while any part closer than that will. This reinforces my belief that there is a constant lurking somewhere that's just begging to be increased.

Perhaps it's just an LOD issue.

There are no LOD settings for planets and suns (and presumably other special effects)... as far as I know it's all implicit.
