Sorry but Taboo perhaps

I would like to upgrade the Nomads in a mod to use their cloaking, not as lootable equipment but as an evil surprise. A player reaches a certain point and they uncloak and attack, or could the sensor detection range to spot only nomads be alerted?

I don't know whether this crosses the line or not...you're not actually asking for a cloak.

Anyways, the only time you see ships uncloak is during the story, and with good reason. If you equip an NPC ship with a cloaking device, it will permanently be cloaked. The only way to make them uncloak is with a particular trigger that's only available during story missions. So yes, you could give Nomads a cloak, but they would never actually ambush you with it.

so it is a triggered event? to bad what about lowering the detection range on players scanner or if the nomads scann a item on the players ship they uncloak. the only other thing I can think of is to make them more see through. But thanks for you posting

You could give nomads a custom scanner with great range, and then in the system that they will be in - give it a massive sensor problem. The nomads should (should) see a bit better with their scanner I THINK (as i am sure its distance percentage that scanners do - ie short scanner range of 2k in interference = 0.9 = 90% unvisible = 200 range
Long scanner (5k range) = 90% = 500 range.

Therefore the nomads would 'see' the player - before the player does. However, the visible range will still apply - and they will 'see' them coming if facing the right way

Of course, to counter that last point, you could make the entire system a dense nebula.

and what about a almost see through ship, harder to spot visualy but still on sensors?

LODranges = 0, 80, 120, 1000

Reduce these numbers in shiparch.ini to make the ship visible only when very nearby it

LODranges = 0, 80, 100, 200
for example

As you ask for it, this can only be acheived as part of an SP scripted mission... See Accushots lovely work for re-cloaking ships in Evolutions 1.28.
