Equipment upgrades....help

Alright....i have been trying to do this for some time now....i want to make upgrades for various equipment. I have already an armour upgrade. I would like to make a shield ugrade, but putting it on a new hardpoint just doesnt work for some reason.

How do i make a new piece of equipment that does not go onto a hardpoint. IE like the armour upgrade. I want a shield generator that does not need a hardpoint and can be added onto your ship while another shield generator is already mounted. The same for thrusters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can make multiple shield and thruster mounts, on the other hand. Try hardpoint cmp, you can also add those mounts to existing ships. And putting those harpoints in the exact same spots as the original ones will give you the same result as what ou desire.
