Getting Into Modding

Hey, I was thinking of starting to MOD freelancer, and I would like to know if any of you have suggestions on systems creators/ editors, or tutorials?

What I would like first is a good tutorial (and any software) that would help me mod an already existing ship.

Also If you have a tutorial on modding guns that would be good too

and my friend spoke of a system editor, where can i find such a thing?

Freelancer Exploer use the search thing (not search forums) also on the tutoriol forum (i think) there is a stickie were you can download a utoroil on making ships it should give you everything
also go to the downloads section and select catagory so it lists the downloads by there catargory nd go to the editing download

I see a future i just hope others can too

Freelancer explorer is a good package to start with, it not only edits systems but you can also create whole new systems with it as well as just adding bases, as for weapon modding and ship modding there are tutorials availiable for these, freelancer explorer is available in the down load section, I've been using it for about 8 months or so now and although it is a little tricky to get to grips with once you've gotten over the initial starup period it is a very capable program, though you will still need to a little manual programming afterwards it will give you a good shoe in to modding, I hope you enjoy the package cause I certainly do.

Yes, you could also try searching out what you are looking for in the Tutorials forum., which taught me how to actually read the ini's and understand them like knowing the difference between [base and [object :p when i first started modding. I remember first thing I made was a duplicate of Newark from newbie questions I believe

Hmm... Aravis, my first mod was another Newark like station also.

No one referred them to the stickied thread... "This one has it all" at the top of this list which would recommend at least these other programs:

FLed_ids for entering new numbers and text into your dll files
Bini, or Bini Lite for decrypting your Freelancer files

and of course an empty dll file like "newres2.dll" or Giskard's "emptyfreelancer.dll" which has a starting point and instructions clearly detailed in his accompaning text file.

Then of course, there will be others but you could hum along forever without anything else but the ones mentioned above and by the moderators.

But of course, after you have mastered something, you will want to move on to somethign else! Learn to read the ini's and understand them ( not saying i am the master reader of ini's) but just know what some stuff means, then explore! Making some errors is almost part of the fun of making a mod, unless its a really big mod. Searching through and finding what was wrong. Then laughing after you find out. Such is not the thing for factions .
