key locking a gun

Okay, we all know that Freelancer, like most modern games, requires a product key.

Well what if the same was applied to mods, say u make a gun, then when u go to buy it in freelancer, u must enter a security code to get it, (the security code is given out by the mod maker).

Its just a crazy idea i had whilst eating KFC, but I think it could put a stop to mod reverse enginerring and rip offs. Plus it could that certain other mod, which we have all had trouble with (I don't support that mod, its contains more evil than starbucks coffee).

The problem with it is, most mods are made for individual use, freely. No reason for a key at all. If in making a mod with someone else's "gun", you need to get thier permision before making the mod. A key would be useless.

Only a handful of the people who play mods actually submit them too. If you find a mod someone's made that's obviously taken parts of yours, without credit or permission, email Bargib or bakedpotato about it. There's no need to lock anything down. I've never seen a mod do it before, even the ones that had a load of new features.

Just what we need... Mod Nazis. That would be the end of it all. I could write a book here on this subject but I'll just go cry and let it pass.

Shadow, the thing is here, all things are open and shared, so locking it would be pointless. One mod maker wanted total control over his/thier mod almost to the point of getting it trademarked. This game and site is about lerning and helping each other. So locking a mod would not be helpful. All the mods that I have played, have been a lot of fun. I have learned to mod a few things myself by looking at other mods to se how they did it. As long as you ask permission and give credit to creators of a ship/gun/mod or what ever, you can add on and use to your hearts content.
