Help a noob out:-(

man...I just have all sorts of problems...ok...here's the latest...in one of my systems, I put a liberty dreadnaught, kusari, bretonia, and rhineland battleships, and the osiris...all in a nice little group...and of course, all hate each other...5 way war:-D(I didn't put the house factions on the ships) I also put patrols around the circle, 5 of them, one for each faction...but now when ever I try to enter the system, the game crashes and I end up at the desktop...what's wrong?:-( is it not possible to make a 5-way war within a 5k radius? usin FLE...basically made 5 bases, liberty navy, rouges, order, hessians, hackers....and patrols...I fiddles with the patrol numbers...was that a mistake? increased max battle size...

Also(hehe:-D), I got permission and tried to add Rimshots Dockable Hispania Mod to mine...I figured it would be easy, switch my script with his, change author/discription, put all his files in mine...but FLMM says there's an error in part 1, Hi01...that's the system hispania's in...that's all it says...no clue...any help? or should I just delete everything related to freelancer and stick to...umm...I dunno...somethin else...?:-P any help...thanks..

EDIT: ok, now I'm frustrated...I was having trouble keeping the names on my bases and systems, figured out that FLE wasn't making DLL's...so I looked around and found a newer version...fixed that...but the mod's I made with DLL's won't let me jump to the systems...but when it wasn't right and there wasn't a DLL, I could do whatever I wanted...WHAT'S GOIN ON?!?!?! OI! Why can't I get a break here?:-PI can either have names or a working mod:-P the old mod, AREA-51, the one I submitted, was a rough draft of what I'm making...that was with the FLE that wouldn't make a DLL...everything I've done since then, even the edit of AREA-51 where I put the names in, none of it works!....oi...I'm going to bed >:-/

There is a thread i made in Tutorials forum - called "Debugging - find answers to crashes" - which deals exclusively with the problem of systems crashing. Suggest you go read that, very thoroughly, and check everything that it recommends!

Follow Chips advice about debugging, but pay particualr attnetion to the number series in you dll. Make absolutely sure you are not stepping on any numbers for ids_name or ids_info from the Hispania mod. It sounds like, from your description, that that is what is happening.

hm, i do not know of any problems with the hispania mod ..

did you try the mod as addon, and do you have flmm 1.2 or higher?

No, no... Rimshot, I did not say the Hispania mod had a problem. I merely surmised that some of his numbers for ids_name or ids_info were the same as the ones in the Hispania mod or some other place, even in the stock game, and he might have used them when he wrote his mod. From the description of his problem that is how it seemed to me.

umm...ok...I'll check that tutorial, and I have no clue if my dns numbers are the same as rimshots...I just use FLE, so I suppose I'll check that first...I'll edit with what I've tried when I try it...if I don't, you know somethin worked...but what I mentioned at the end is I can't get any mods to work since I've downloaded the latest FLMM I could find on this site, 1.3, I downloaded it and the latest FLE I could find, had some trouble, just reinstalled FL, lookin on my hard drive for the SDK thingy, haven't tested the fresh install, but when I downloaded the FLE and FLMM a week or two ago, the FLE mods started getting DLL's like they were supposed to, but no mod will work...can't get out of new york with a mod active... oh well...I'll debug and play with it...I'll edit and tell ya all about my troubles again in here if I still got them:-P thanks for your advice...

Also you have to get rid of the patrols in FLE it can't yet do them to my knowlage this could be one reason..

if you wan't patrols or scouts then i suggest area population is a better choice..

hope ya fix the problem

strange...jumgates crash me, but jumpholes won't.....and as soon as I add a zone to my system, the mod never works again...I think I may just do what I suggested at the begining of this thread...delete all thing lancer and do...somethin else:-P all on a fresh install...without the SDK thingy...

Well, cylindrical patrols are a problem, but if you don't overlap them spherical or eliptical ones can be added without too much trouble.

If you have been trying to make patrols with a "sphere" type and you have crashes then you really have something wrong. The 1.3 SDK and the 1.4 SDK are solid though, and do not present problems, and as a matter of fact, solve many. They do, of course, overwrite your modifications which you have to "hand edit" back in after adding the SDK's.

BTW: I wouldn't trust Freelancer explorer. I have made all my ini modifications with the text editor, which is much safer imho. Last time I tried FLE, it just like to not do what I want or even crash.

ya, I know it would be better to not use fle, but I haven't a clue where to start when it comes to doing it any other way, seems a whole lot easier to use it, and I didn't have any patrols in the one I made real quick...it worked until I added a ice cloud zone...it all worked fine till I upgraded my FLMM and the FLE to the newest...it wouldn't make DLL's. but at least it never crashed anything...pretty twisted huh?:-P as long as I'm typing, milkshape has expired on me, now what do I use?:-P any help?...oh well....seriously considering throwing all things freelancer in the recycle bin:-P...oi...fresh install of FL, FLMM, FLE, and up to date virus as of yesterday, so I think it's just me...oh well, thanks everyone for your help....I dunno... if anyone wants to look at my mod and see if they can fix it, e-mail me... [email protected] ...I'm out of solutions...stars, planets, bases, tradelanes, all good...add a zone? kaboom...I'll keep trying, but for some reason I can't make anything more that a basic planet star tradelane system to work...I dunno...

maybe you don`t know this:

example of [SystemInfo name = St01: (data/universe/systems/st01/st01.ini)

pretty much on top of the file you find ..

[Asteroids
file = solar\asteroids\St01_nomad_asteroids.ini <--- (name of the file which contains all information about the general appearance)
zone = Zone_St01_edge_nebula <--- (nickname of the zone inside the system.ini; mainly just defines name, size, shape, etc)

same here for a nebula zone ..

[Nebula
file = solar\nebula\St01_edge_nebula.ini
zone = Zone_St01_edge_nebula

as you can see nebulas data is stored in: data\solar\nebula
and asteroid fields in: data\solar\asteroids


EDIT:
note: exclusion zones are linked to xxx_asteroids.ini in data\solar\asteroids folder as well ..

Regarding JG's and JH's i'v used both with no probs but i usally use JH's because you woulden't have a JG for instance : 3k from a planet ect..

but regarding patrols i just don't use them, i think there just toooo unstable.

I've used FLE for a while and you get to know the limits and the "nook & cranies" of FLE i think its great for begginers who just wan't to add new systems and stations, and more area populations.

But of corse if you wan't more controll go for the .ini's by all means.
