Nomad Textures - WTF ?

Hey guyz , iv been sent a ship , and have had diffuculties providing a nomad texture . on of the .dds texture dunt have the same effect as a nomad does. The nomad mat file , i think , wen open wiv a cmp importer in milkshape the mat file is contained in the .3db files. Along with model of the ship :S EG.)

The normal location when choosing a mat is : C:\...\DATA\SHIPS\NOMAD\NO_FIGHTER\no_fighter.3db

The ship model is : C:\...\SHIPS\NOMAD\NO_FIGHTER\no_fighter.3db

In the shiparch.ini the location of these are the same , wen trying 2 merge the different bit of the shiparch entry of the nomad it didnt crash the game , but i had a ship with no texture.

Nomad Entry:
DA_archetype = ships\nomad\no_fighter\no_fighter.3db
material_library = ships\nomad\nomad_fx.txm <-- When using this file , the ship has no texture and is invisible !

When looking @ a xlm script for a flyable nomad fighter didnt help either. It just added camera angles and weps levels ! no help !

The more i look into the nomad and its texture , i get more and more confused ! and i see more more unusal things...!

Any help or advise would be gr8 !!!!

Edit : nomad = true .. this line also added into the entry , didnt make a difference !!

If you're trying to duplicate the nomad textures on a different ship you've got a problem. AFAIK no one has made that work yet. It has something to do with gradient maps, I think, which neither Milkshape nor the MAT/CMP exporter(s) can export. Good luck tho, it would be really nice to see someone crack this...

funny that this post came up, i was just thinking about why ppl havent made nomad ships, while i was testing my nomad ships in my expansion, i think it may be that tyhere is a central core int he ship that moves all the time. i dont know much about ship building and skinning, but i can see that as being a dilema. also the fact of it being translucent, but then again if ship skins can be removed and be invisible, hence how the cloak works, then this wouldnt be too complicated.

how bout this as a troubleshooter, take an existing nomad ship and make it smaller per say. and see if the skins shrinkw ith it and make it a .3ds file. if that works u can work from there just gently changing the ship until and error, backtrack and start again you know?

Well I can't try that, my MS won't load if I have the CMP importer installed lol. I seem to remember some research that people here did some time ago, and it was something to do with gradient maps. Try looking in the nomad mat files, in the type nodes that usually read something like DcDt it has a Gr or something. The post is here if you want to read it. I never did get it working though, sorry.

Heres an idea: make a pink generic texture the fiddle with the transparency and tadaaaaah, youve got a nomad texture. quite simple if you think about it. Hehe.

I want a pet flying monkey. Should I check Ebay or the Black Market?

The texture .. does it glow.. doubt it, the proof is in the pictures..I can make them light up, plus I can make them translucent, I just cant do both at the same time, but in time I may be able to, however, it is not as simple as that.

Oh yeah i completely forgot about the glowing. couldn't you make it translucent in ms3d and add light hps and in the loadout give it a red and a white light so it looks pink? or can it not be done that way?

Short answer.. no

Translucency in Milkshape does not transfer into the game model, just as a note, I have been working on this for some time now and may be close to getting something to work.. but for the moment my results are inconclusive.

When I have more I'll post it.
