clan "controled" bases (might be possible)

I just thought of this....
Well technically clans could control bases, but it would require MASSIVE work from side of admin (so not sure who would actually do it). But here is what I think anyway...

A clan controls an system, and would like a static BS placed near a jumphole, to defend the system. How this could be possible is this way, admin of the server sets up the price of the base and weapons it would carry. Lets say base costs 900mill with best weapons and all. The clan pays this amount to admin, later this money can be used for different kind of competitions..etc. Anyway, the base can be put up there, by an server update which could be released for example every first week in a month. So once the update is out, the clan would have an base. Now for rest of the work, admin would have to make a new faction (for that clan) and make it hostile towards the players that clan is hostile towards, and allied towards.

Now I know above IS possible, since there were so many mods that added new bases and faction. But the main possible problem could be player wipe. I know that for some changes there is no need for player wipe, for some its needed, and since I am not sure if adding a new base and faction would require a player wipe, I am not sure that this idea could work either...

Therefore, would changes mentioned above require a player wipe?? And what do ya think about the idea??

**hehe watch the flaming start **

It may require a player wipe, but i really dunno. They players won't have them in their "reps" (not the showing ones, but the list of hostile) - and i don't know if it will automatically update them all - BUT it shouldn't be hard to make a program that the server admin could use to update players save files with adding a line, and saving them. It could take some time, BUT since Cryo made FLStat decode the files to read how well everyone is doing, how tough would it be to make it instead decode, and add a line of text where specified....the only issue being it will have to save files too

That should remove the player wipe necessaity. How much coding would it take? Dunno - my programming is SO limited to be non-existant! Ask Cryo!!

Next, the main issue would be ensuring that players had the correct update - otherwise they may crash the server.

Since I dont know about edditing save files (never bothered to learn ) I cant say nothing about that, but right version would be very easy since version can be changed. So u could start with version 5 (number that no other mod uses) and for next version it could be v5.01...

so player wipe would be them main problem

another alternate is this:

by default, if u make a new faction, all existing chars will be neutral to it.
now make lets say 20 (or how many u want) factions that are all-hostile to players when they are created.
later in the game when you need a "hostile" faction just use one of these.
initially, all players would be hostile to this, but its not much work to update the reps of a clan towards this. of course all new chars would be hostile as well.

a bit of maintainance work, but it works.
and you only need to wipe once in the beginning.
the amount of factions you create can be seen as a buffer of how many clans "can" have their own factions and bases.

it's already done...check out EFS_deathmatch mod..
efs.homepagehere.com

they use that on thier server...I have an account...didn't wipe data, they did a server side mod, and you get the player side mod that allows you to enter the system:-P

and it's not a www, it's efs.homepagehere.com .ask them how they did it...all I know, is the clans who pay rent have full control over their systems...jumpholes, bases, planets, all of it...they can allow you access, and they can take it away...

EDIT: they just started the ownership thing...that's how I know it doesn't wip account info:-P

Just my 2 cents...well maybe just 1....

This is already up and running on the Hamburg City server, too. At the beginning, every player is hostile to all of the clans. Clans now have the ability to rep hack (via a web interface) players so they can land on the base(s) of this clan.
