How Does One Alter the Starting Ship?

Like the title says... How does one alter the starting shiP?

Oh, and BTW, this is going to be used with FLRebalance 3.40 (no upgrades), so I'll be modding the newcharacter.ini file that's in it's folder.

Hmm... the only one I found didn't really adress my problem... it was for MP.

Specifically, I want to change the FLRebalance 3.40 starting ship to the Longsword (the oversized ship found on New London).

Go to the CHARACTER folder, and open up newcharacter.ini
Make sure you know the id for the Longsword.

On one of the lines, there will be the words 'ge_fighter' or something like that. Replace them with the id of the Longsword. Loadouts are explained somewhere...

Be this a usin open SP? If so, then the lines you want to change will be after you ahve activated the Open SP addition, go to the freelancer/data/missions/m13/m13.ini - and where it says ge_fighter, msn_playerloadout

Change it to the nickname for the longsword, and find a corresponding loadout for it (search the loadouts.ini file by the longsword's nickname) and then paste the nickname of the loadout for it over the msn_playerloadout part in m13.ini

Save, exit, load FL and hit start new game

No. This is normal Freelancer, except with FLRebalance 3.40. So how do I change the starting ship to the Longsword? I need to know what .ini to change, what to change in aforementioned .ini, what to add, etc.

Also, when I alter the starting money, I still begin with 500. Even when FLRebalance sets starting money at 9000, one still begins with 500. Help?

It is in /Freelancer/DATA/Characters/New Character.ini
You need to modify the [package section.

[package
nickname = ge_fighter <--Change this to the longsword reference in Shiparch.ini
strid_name = 11051
strid_desc = 11551
ship = ge_fighter <--Same as above
loadout = msn_playerloadout <-- Change to the longswords loadout in loadouts.ini
money = 5000 <--- Can always change how much money you have and buy the ship as well :-p

Keep in mind, if you do this, it will only affect your ship (I believe), so you will need to make the mod downloadable for others, unless you don't want them to start with it.

Hope that helps.

Here's the problem: What loadouts entry for the Longsword? If anyone has FLRebalance 3.40 Final, then can they show me where it is? I've gone through loadouts.ini, loadouts1.ini, loadouts2.ini, loudouts3.ini, loadouts_special.ini, and loadouts_utility.ini. As of yet I haven't found the Longsword's loadout.ini entry.

You can always add it to the ship in general in the goods.ini file data/equipment/goods. Find the ship hull and add what you want to the ship and it will be in all the ships of that name. I have not played this mod, but did it to a ship in another mod with the ship as my starting one.

I'm runnin Evolutions 1.28 so I dont know if the name's the same, but I found the Longsword. It is referenced as player_longsword_ship in my shiparch.ini file.

The loadout for it is evading me currently. Sorry, maybe you can leave the loadout as is and change the other too and it will work? I'm not sure

Hope that helps

you can look at the goods.ini and look for the longsword's package...

true,
for the loadout:

just look up the longsword package and copy it ..

now go to Data\Ships\loadouts.ini .. and paste

you only need to change the structure a little (compare with other loadouts) .. but that`s it then, should work

@ Sun striker,

Aye, but the loadout is taken from the loadouts.ini for the ships referred to in the newchar and storyline files.

Fraid i haven't played or looked at Rebal, but i would say asking at:
www.rebalancemod.com
would be your best bet at being told - cause i aint willing to download it to help out
