Can NPCs use Torpedoes?

I have tried equipping NPCs with various torpedoes, some being Cruise Missiles (which travel about 230 - 260 m/s and do b/t 2400 and 6000 damage) from SilverFire's weap packs, but none of them ever use these.
The one exception is the Nomad Torpedo, which the Nomads love to use now
But all other NPCs refuse to use any torpedoes on me : P (Yeah, I want them to fire on me with those - I can't think of a much more challenging fight)

Has anyone ever figured out how to make NPCs use Torps? I know the Story characters (like in the first mission when LibNavy destroys the pirate base, and in the one where the Rheinland defectors destroy the Rheinland BS by the Leeds JH - maybe others, too), but I can't get anyone to use them.

Thanks for any advice.

they should use cruise disruptors by default. i'm constantly getting stuck in fights because of tradelane and druise disruptions.
as for the torpedoes my logical answer would be because its a waste
true it would take you out fast but they move and turn so ssllooww it would be way to easy to dodge.

I have an easy solution to this as I am planning on using in my Star Trek Total Conversion I'm working on. Simply get all of the information u need in Weapon_Equip.ini as you would with any torpedo. The make an exact copy. On the copy, change it from a torpedo mount to a gun mount. That way, you will have one of them as a torpedo mount for actual players and the other as a gun mount that you can give one or two of to npcs in their gun mounts.

Yes, NPC's can use torpedos, but you have to tell them to. Go into pilotspopulation.ini file, and for all the npc pilots's that you want to use torpedos, change the lines like this:

attack_preference = fighter, 5000, guns / guided / unguided

To this:

attack_preference = fighter, 5000, guns / guided / unguided / torpedo

Basically add the "/ torpedo" to the end of the line. Nice and simple eh?


EDIT: After I posted, I realized that Lancer's Reactor doesn't handle the straight up and down line, so all the lines are changed to forward slashes. Don't use forward slashes, but instead use the line (shift \ on your keyboard).

Ah, ok. Thank you! I will give that a go soon - right now i only get CTD So I have to save all of my work, restore backups, then try again. Probably be tomorrow before I can try it.
But thanks a lot for your replies! I'll try to post the results before too soon.
