Some Questions from me to you

Hi all,

as everyone probably knows by now all the character costumes and heads are stored as .dfm files. what I want to know is, can these files be imported/exported, what program does the impoter/exporter work for and can i make new costumes, heads, hands, etc for freelancer.

EDIT: Topic Subject (see below for other questions)

It's eyes were completly devoid of life,
Empty Orbs that took in the world with an unfeeling gaze,
A thin trail of blood ran from a fresh wound,
But it would not or could not tend to it,
Only one thing ever brought a spark of vitality,
To the eyes of this Tortured Soul:
The Suffering of others.

Yes, you can edit them. You can open them using the UTF editor. I've never tried but if you go down to the texture library node and extract what's in the MIP0 you get a tga of whatever is in there. Not sure about the other MIPs. KYJellyfish did a Dark Trent and Alien sampler with a Klingon and others so if you search for his mod maybe you can contact him and he can give you a good direction to go.

Here's a sample of what I pulled out of a MIP0 for the benchmark female body:

Good luck, it would be very cool to have some aliens and different costumes etc. running around inFL.

Edit= Fixed the link.

first...that link took me to the milkshape exporter...not the utf editor... Also...What do you use to edit the tga files? is there anything free you can edit it/them with?

Hammond in reference to Cassie levitating and spinning the knight chess piece: "How can she do that?"
Jack: "Magnets. Magnets, every, every one of those pieces has got a little tiny magnet in the bottom, to hold it on the board when you're driving so it doesn't rattle off. Anyway, every one of those magnets has got a little electrical field around it, that's how she was able to manipulate it. Magnets." Hammond stares blankly. "They do look like horses." Doc, Daniel, and Teal'c stare blankly.

Sorry, the same guy made both and they're right next to each other in bakedpotato's utility post, got the wrong one. I'll fix the link. Any time you're looking for a tool go to the editing utility forum and look in bakedpotato's post that's stickied at the top.
For a .tga editor I use photoshop elements but there's one that's free called IrfanView. I don't think you can edit in Irfanview but I believe you can use it to convert .tga and .dds to .bmp so that you can do some editing.

Also, Wavel Pic-2-Pic can convert most things to just about anything. Drizzt had a link in his tutorial onn ships, but it didnt work, so just search for "Wavel pic" or something and you should be good.

Start UTF editor.
Click on "Open File"
Navigate to the .dfm file
Double click on it
In UTF Editor you will have a plus sign in a box click on it
Click on the node called "Texture Library"
Click on whatever node that's down there you want
Once that expands you'll see a list of MIP's click on MIP0
Click on "Extract"
Navigate to the folder where you want to save
In the file name box type "nameyouwant.tga"
Save.

Dunno. You can try and let us all know how it turned out.

Go to data\equipment\engine_equip.ini find the engine that's listed on your ship's package. Then put none where the flame efffect is. Like this:

[Engine
nickname = ge_gf1_engine_01
ids_name = 263671
ids_info = 264671
volume = 0.000000
mass = 10
max_force = 48000
linear_drag = 599
power_usage = 0
reverse_fraction = 0.200000
flame_effect = gf_li_smallengine01_fire <------type "none" here
trail_effect = gf_li_smallengine01_trail
trail_effect_player = gf_li_smallengine01_playtrail <----your trail
cruise_charge_time = 5

Edit = Or, if your feeling like an over-acheiver today, you can go into data\fx\engines\engines_ale.ini. Find your engine flame entry and the associated txm files and mess with that now that you know how to use UTF editor. I have no clue if that would work but you never know until you try.
