toughness = xxx, weapon_equip.ini...what does it mean?

I've searched, but I can't find out just what this means...

So, what does it mean, what does it affect/pertain to? This question arose while trying to harvest a few nomad energy cannons/blasters in Omicron Gamma/that system with Gammu & Primus. I've been trying to be good and play the game by the rules but I've shot down far too many nomads with my 4 class 10 weaps & 2 salamanca mk II's and I'm beginning to wonder if this toughness variable in the weapon_equip.ini file determines, in some way, how much damage they can withstand.

hmm, good question actually.

it is NOT how much damage the gun can take, that is defined in the [Gun section under "hit_pts = "

when you compare guns then the toughness value is higher for better guns, smaller for weak ones.

-> no clue, sry. i havent spotted any difference yet with that value being high or low.

Based on your observation that it's directly proportional to weapons' destructive potential and after perusing the forums some more, I think it might play a role in the caculation of the number discussed in this thread.

No, actually the number in the screenshot of the previous thread is the difficulty level of the AI (in normal freelancer the difficulty can be between 1 - 19).

So their conclusion in that thread is wrong, or am I misinterpreting it?
