Using character models in-game

Has anyone attempted to edit the INIs such that they could use the character models in game as a ship class or something?

My goal would be to add a "first person" element to freelancer, where someone could get out of their ship and explore a planet surface or something.

Think of the dyson sphere exterior level in the game. Someone could theoretically create a level similar to that one for planet surfaces, and use the character models as a "ship" to walk around and explore.

Anyone who has played with this, please advise,

Cheers!

for that to work you'd need to somehow create gravity.

I'm very confused on what you mean. Do you mean landing on a dockable planet, getting out and moving around with the keyboard?

Yes, I mean docking with a planet, and then basically going into FPS mode, interacting with characters that way. This game is basically a FPS using spacecraft instead of people, I would just fool the engine into thinking that the characters were all 'ships', and that the planet surface was another 'system' similar to the dyson sphere exterior, ie a 'ground' with buildings, etc. I think it could be done, and in fact I'd be surprised if someone hasn't attempted it already.

I have had a go, but you're really limited to corridors, if you could get some custom SUR files to work that is. Another problem is that whenever you touch a surface, e.g. the floor, you start shaking around all over the place.

I think it probably could be done, it just wouldn't work very well

I would like to see if this actually works or not.
