making new shields

hi im a newbie at this and i cant find anything on the forums about it the problem ive got is that ive made a new shield and only want it to go into one ship so i tried to change the hp_type for the shield to something different but the shield mount wont come up in the game im missing something but i cant work it out its driving me crazy i hope someone can help me thanks.

Make the ship have a class ten freighter shield mount type, as this is not used in game at all, and therefore totally unique to your ship.

How to do this? Its newbie questions, editing ships and stuff, changing mounts etc.
