giving credits....

ok everyone i have been working really hard on a mod that is not all that new of an idea but still its a mod right anyways i was wondering i have been plainning to rip ships from other mods such as...Freeworlds, FlRebalance, WTS world, Evolutions and such...BUT i want to know if A.) i can have permission to do so and if so who to give FULL credits to or just add your credits section in. and B.) with all the information given in the forums would it be better to credit the TLR community for the inspiration and ideas? i already know who to credit for things like the capship encounters, sellable power plants..etc..etc...

so if anyone can tell me whats up here i will be most appreciative...the entire mod is in stasis till i get the permission to use mainly the Star Wars ships since this is a Sirius meets that good ole galaxy far far away...

so if anyone can help me get in contact withthe ship builders that would be excellent but if not i understand and all cause it was your work in teh first place it was just soo awesome i figured i would use it at your permission,

oh yeah, who was the ship builder for the privateer mod? the mod's credits thing and readme( sadly like all the mods i have DLed) were missing so thats why i am asking these questions.

That's a lot like my Republic mod.....
What I've done for mine is ask permission from Porsche, who creates some very good ships.

You will have to find out who made the models, and ask if you can use them. This includes contacting the mods you have taken them out of, and asking whom made them originally. You can email Porsche - check out his downloads in the downloads section that lets you know where to get hold of him. For others, its semi detective work if the credits aren't up to scratch - but just because they were lazy in making terrible credits, it doesn't mean that YOU can blame them and not bother to find out.

Also - tell the mods that do use other ships that aren't theres, that they should update the readme file. Basically - if you cannot tell whom made the ships, then they have got it wrong. Ships credits are a VERY large part of my readme file - as i tell you where to contact etc etc.

If the models are theirs, you have no choice but to ask permission. You cannot use and put credits IF they made them - you HAVE to get permission. We have had enough trouble in this area recently, so please avoid any further complications by getting correct permssions

yeah i figured i would ask because of the entire darksabre incident with th etie universe....no need to poop slinging to be done ya know i respect everyone here and all the great work they do and it is because of these people that we can enjoy this game further....

@chips....thank you for the tip and i will go sherlock holms on it

@zack.....yeah i just checked out the details on the republic mod and realized i need to REALLY re-think my idea since it was already done but i got a better idea now...basically mixing the privateer universe into the mix with...i guess a version of the coalition in the effort to kinda bring history back ya know


thanks guys i re downloaded the mods...some of the credits are kinda skimpy...but i guess it will entail a LOT of e-mailing and searching...and if i can't find em i am not goin to use the models...no need to start a riot

hahaha no no i am not going to impune on your idea my friend...we just had the same idea at the same time

but i am going to incorporate the idea just add a few other governments into the mix and i guess let everyone have at it lol

i can't wait to see what your mod is like from what i read it sounds really cool...but alas i have no team it is just lil ole me working on mine...guess thats why it is taking forever lol

but i am definately goingto give you some form of credit since you are working on the same idea just for that fact too cause i do not want anyone gettin upset abnd sides you seem nice enough so i see no reason to not give ya credit since you have the same goal

@Darkshadow - It used to be lil ol me working on Evolutions as well - although i must confess that Accushot is now my co-coder in modding - which is fantastic

Actually the Republic Mod started a few months ago. It is only now that I have started to bring in a team. It used to be just me creating the systems.

hey zack....i wish you all the best on you efforts on the mod...like i said earlier sounds interesting and like lots of fun

i just never realized how long it took to do a faction..lol too damn many things to add and change...whats sad is i have 8 out of teh planned 30 factions done...at an hour or more a piece this is getting obsurd lol

i swear i am making this mod a backing for all my other mods after everything is entered i will wipe my test system out and zip up a copy of the fresh mod ready for systems fo later use,,

Dark Shadow, why not join up with Zack on HIS mod...He has a post up asking for modders to join his team...It seems to me that you two share a vision, and it seems a waste to have both of you trying to make similar mods...

Now that is an excellent idea. Two people who want to do the same type of mod, neither one of which seems like a credit hogging, ego driven individual, pooling their efforts. Makes sense.
