How Many hardpoints can i have on my ship?

i have created a ship that has 8 "Hp/Revolute/HpWeapon"s is this too many?

The reason i ask is because when i buy the ship the game crashes, and i notice the most any other ship has is 6, also counting torps, counter and mines i now have more weapons than can be allocated to number keys. so i thought that this may be what is causing the game to crash. I know i could just try and see if it works with less but i thought it would save time if i asked you guys first. besides i want lots of weps if i can have them.

I dont no of a limit on hardpoint numbers that will be effectively broken by a mod that makes sense
so the answer is no, your problems aren't the hardpoints.

as a comparison, take some of the existing battleships, they have ~20 gun mounts and they work fine.

Try looking through your shiparch, or goods file. Usually problems like this only show up when you've made a small error in your code, probably spelling related

On another note, it can't be the number of hardpoints because I've made a ship with 6 gun, 4 turret, 4 torp, 1 CM, and 2 thrusters and it works fine

I have made a few ships with 8 revolute hardpoints, and they work fine. As someone above me said, there is most likely an error in either Shiparch.ini or goods.ini...go through the entries for your ship in both of those places. ALSO, Crabtree made a spectacular program for putting ships into FL. Do a search for a program called "Shipscripter". You can create the shiparch.ini and goods.ini entries for you ship in that program and either use the script it generates to put it in FL OR you can copy and paste the entries into shiparch.ini and goods.ini manually if you like, but his awesome program with keep your entries error-free.

The program is in the downloads section here...just do a search.

check out your section headings, ie. [Power, [Engine, etc... you might have forgotten to put one... This is my usual error... or it must be your Syntax.
