.3db file issue - any advice?

Back before I had any idea what I was doing (I didn't understand what all the .cmp, .mat. sur, .3db, .ini .... files were, or that they couldn't be opened by anything like Windows Media Player), I ignorantly attempted to open a .3db file with the Media Player -- lol, *sigh* yeah, I know, ridiculous, huh?
However, I know have the problem of ALL .3db files thinking they are supposed to open with the Windows Media Player; every single one has the WMP icon, says that it opens with WMP. I tried to change it back, but reinstalling doesn't work - my computer remembers what it had before, and makes all new .3db files WMP-openable :-/
And now my FL won't even start up, just crashing to Desktop right after the opening FL screen.

How can I change the .3db files back to their original format, so my comp will open them correctly and they won't be WMP files? (NOTE: I have tried right-clicking, "Open with" > but there is no way for me to restore them to their original way that I could see.)
Thank you!

1) pull up windows explorer, click on tools->folder options
2) click on the "file types" tab
3) highlight .3db in the list and click the 'delete' button

This will erase the registry entry telling WMP to open those files.

Right click on the 3db file. Select "properties" and then see that just under its name is "opens with" - click on the CHANGE button, and select the UTF editor from there. That will associate it with UTF editor instead forever more

Yes! That worked. Thank you very much; it's nice to have regular-looking files again

But now I have another question regarding .3db's:
How can I change the icon for Scanners and Tractors? I can't find their Goods entries to enter my changed 3db directory (like "data/equipment/models/commodities/nn_icons/new_tractor_mk1.3db" in the "item_icon= ..." line.
In which .ini file are those entries located?
thanks a lot

Strength and honor.

They don't have a goods entry, cause they are not viewable in the game. You have to make goods entries to see them. That is covered in Newbie Questions thread - check the one at the top that says its got EVERYTHING in it - cause it aint braggin for nothin

Ah, ok. Thanks so much! I am going to go try it now. I just like fiddling around and making nice new things.

EDIT: No! I have had this probelm before , and it's annoying - when I try to access infocards with FLEd-ids, and then try to save new ones, I get this error:

"Error: EndUpdateResource failed: 110"

The last time I got this thing, it had "19" instead of 110. All I had to do was change all my .dll files to Non-ReadOnly, and it worked fine. Now I get this evil error! Does anyone know what that means? Thanks

And here's another question (sorry for the list ): I have entered 10000m as the range for my scanner, but now I cannot detect anything outside of 2.5 km. And even though my files SAY I can tractor things in at 4000 m , I have to be within 1000 in order to have the Tractor Loot option/image show up by the Thruster reserves %. Why is this? Sorry again for the list. Thanks so much for any help.

Ok, I figured out the FLEd-ids error - had some stupid FL program running in the background that I didn't know about. But I still have the 2.5 km-limited Scanner :/ And is ther a way for me to make it so that when there is loot 3500 to 4000m away, I can tractor it in by judt pressing BEAM ALL instead of BEAM SINGLE TARGETED OBJECT (making it necessary to target every individual piece of loot and press that to get them all) ?
Any chance someone knows about that? Thank you
