a jump drive

im not good with computers, but would a Jump drive type thing be possible?

I don't think so. We had a similar question a while back, where someone tried to make the game think that a weapon was a jumpgate, but it didn't work. Even if it did, though, you'd only be able to use it in one system, and it would only ever take you to another particular system.

But what if it would be a server-side mod with external app (like ioncross server operator)? Let's say there is a weapon named jump drive and when a player activates it it asks him where he wants to go, jumps him there and takes of some credits or H-fuel or something! Wouldn't that be cool?

Umm.... Not really... I think it would just be a waste of time really..... I mean, why can't you just use the jump holes and gates?

You could theoretically write a server program to move you to a system when you use the jumpdrive. @karatekid it could be used as a quick getaway device - but you'd have to have H-fuel or Mox onboard to use it. I like the idea, now if only someone could make it work...

the thing is that gates are stationary buildings, not weps, and u need to dock with them, i could see it as being mabye a dropped item of some sort, but other than that i think its pretty much an embedded thing

ya well the only game i have ever known with jump drives like that is X2:The Threat so if you can say oh edit the entire Freelancer jumpgate system to something like X2 then sure but are you ready for such a long hard task as that one?

How about this: a SECONDARY cruise engine with a speed of say...10,000. Create a waypoint where you want to go, select the secondary cruise engine, and press go to. Wouldn't that be just as good? While keeping standard cruise engines in order to be able to use it normally when you want

Try my slipspace. 300 thousand cruise speed. And it controls in cockpit mode, feels like, and looks like the real thing. Just for the love of god target where you want it first.

And try to make sure you avoid the nearest star, eh?
But what I meant was a SECONDARY cruise engine. That way you don't lose the good old 300 cruise speed.

c) It's in development. Beta mods will be released in a month, maybe more. If you want to be a tester, just ask in the other thread
