How to make a capship FROM SCRATCH?

I haven't found no tutorial for that...
I know some poeple here made battleships..

Now I have done models (with lod's)..
How does the converting process for them go?

pretty the same way u create pilotable fighters - just bigger

search for Drizzt's shipmakin tutorial, model and skin a ship.
then adjust some ini-entries regarding mass and agility.
you probably also want capship guns on it - check out some gun tutorials.

when picking a .sur file take one of an existing battleship.

yup, much the same way except you must gruop it for special effects... and the hardest thing in large ships is looking for the perfect sur file.

I know how to convert fighters....

Yeah, but all those blowable bits and explosion and debirs?
What about them? Must they be converted in some special way or something?
does it require some special HP's?

thats a nice to have but not nessessary to make a pilotable capship.
techinally its really the same as a fighter (fighters can have destructible parts as well, remember)

the explosions and the general sequences are handled in "fuses".
search for "fuse tutorial" in the tuts forum, i made one maybe a week ago - should explain everything to set up a nice explosion sequence for any ship.

O.k. - I have just one question.

When creating bits that fall off/explode/break...

Do I have to select all the faces I want to blow off in milkshape and re-name them into a group (like whrn texturing), or do I have to duplicate that selection first, or do I have to make a completely new debris model?
