What?

O.k. - now this is REALLY strange....

I added the HpShield to all battleships and cruisers. I defined it in the shiparch.ini and put it in the loadouts_special...

Now..I play the singleplayer and everything works fine (Walker and his cruisers had shields on the Willard Station mission, alltough the Harmony, Missouri and Yukon didn't?)

So I finish the Willard staton mission and go around flying and killing and Juni calls for the next mission.
So right after the docking ring sequence (aprox 4-5 seconds) the game chrashes. In those 4-5 seconds I can fly around and i targeted the Unity - sure enough - it had shields....

Now, just for testing reasons I removed the Unity's Battleship shield in the loadouts_special and whoa...the game didn't chrash....it lasted full 10 seconds longer...and then it chrased (Right after Juni says that you're trapped).

Now I removed all the cruiser shields in the loadouts and started again..chrashed after 4 seconds...
I put the cruiser shields back - chrashed after 4 seconds
I put the battleship shields back - chrash after 4 seconds....


Before I started to modify anything I installed the Realspace v2.0... I addeed my own system and changed some weapons (added 3 new ships and 2 new guns). The only thing I changed in the Li01 system was a nebula I added with a batleship and hidden jumpgate, but they worked fine before (and I haven't changed anything)

Any ideas?

umm... you do realise that the "HpShield" command line in the ini's is refering to a hardpoint in the ships cmp.

Most freelancer ships which don't have a shield in game also tend to not have a hardpoint called "HpShield" in the mesh. What your doing is trying to add an item on a hardpoint which doesn't exsist on the ship.

So if you want to add shields to the hardpoint called "hpshield" your going to have to go manually make a new hardpoint with the utf editor for that ship. Or, what's easier and what I've done a number of times, just reuse another hardpoint. You can add more then one thing to a hardpoint, so forinstance I added contrials to the gunboats runninglight hardpoints. For a shield you could just slap it onto the HpEngine01 hardpoint. Just verify that when your adding something onto a hardpoint, that that harpoint exsists on the model.

I did add it to all battleships/cruisers...
Nad that is what's confusing me...Meh...
I could try relocating all the shield to the HpEngine01...

You don't specify where you added it though, for all that means you coulda just added it to the inis, doesn't say you went into the cmps and made a new node for a new shield hardpoint : p

Well..I did add it to the cmp...

I just made a test...
In my own system the Rheinland and Liberty Battleship and cruisers both have working shields (regardless if I put it on HpShield01 or HpEngine01...both work)

The fourth Mission chrashes regardless if any of the capships is shielded or not...
I tough it migt be the weapons, since the Battleship Main Turret does 15000 damage andhas a range of 5 klicks. Maby there's a problem with the range... the ship hits something else..
So I changed that too...still chrashes...

I really have no idea...maby the SolarArch ini? I did make all the objects (save planets, docking rings and tradelanes destructable)..Nah...I've been flying trough the system and shoothing at things all this time and everything was fine (includin in previous missions)

Well..I made a back-up of all my files and I may re-install FL and add tricky files one-by-one to see which one 8if any) causes the chrash...

That is...unless anyone has a better idea?

Strange...I re-installed FL (but left the savegames) and once I put the files back the same mission chrashed again....

I have narrowed it down a bit...more testing required....

It's definately not the shields....Every other mission worked fine...


I added a battleship, a nebula and a jumpgate to my system in Li01...so I tought that those might be causing gthe crash (too many things in system once the mission starts). I removed all my stuff rom Li01(but I did leave the stuff in the shortest_path.ini) and it still chrashed...

Very, very strange.... I simply can't find a reason for it to chrash!

My own system chrashes when I want to leave the base/planet alltough I can fly around in it and I can enter it from another system.. All the tradelanes(3) are o.k....Any Ideas?

In that case do a reinstall. You might have made an accidental error somewhere that appears in that system - it could be a normal encounter etc - so reinstall and try again....

It does sound like the dreaded elusive ini typo crash to me.

I keep the good ol' Fresh Ini Files zip handy for such emergencies.
I thought I would be clever and link to the download page here, but couldn't find it for ya.

Oh, what the hey. I'll host it for a while.

Being able to simply unzip the ini's into the FL directory has saved me many headaches without repeated re-installations.

I did...there is sez it's the readelanes, but I have only 3 and have checked them...they work fine and are numbered correctly...

Well this is new!...
As you know FL worked normally (except the 4th mission and ny own system).

I uninstalled it and removed everything from it's directory...
Then I re-installed it and it chrashed imidiately..it didn't even get to the menu?!

How can a freshly installed game chrash whn it worked fine before....I'm stumped...

Delete the save games folder - i had this many times, and its any save game at all in that folder. Where is it? Follow instructions in the thread in the mod support forum (last forum in editing section!). The stickied post by baked, with additions from me.

That did it...It's up and running again....Now to see if it will chrash again....
