UV(W) maps as texture?

I am currently working on getting the different ships from Stargate (both movie and SG-1 series) into a mod. I'm still new at the whole thing, but thanks to all of the info here and at Starfyre's site, I think I've got a good handle on how to do the FL internals.

My question is this: I received a model of a ship with accompanying UW map as a bitmap. Can I just convert this (after "painting" of course) into a .dds (tga?) and use it as the only texture?

yes you can do that... its the material library enrties that are actually called out not the texture library....

MIP0 (MIP zero) <--- imported tga files
MIPS <---- imported dds files....

suggestion.... convert them to dds files... it wll be problem free.
