Changing Radiation Damage type...

Anyone know where the type of damage that radiation does (currently hull) is set? I swear I've seen it somewhere in the ini files, but I can't find it now of course
Thanks!

I'm not sure it's possible. I checked the ini file for omega 11 which has the radiation, and in the radiation zone entry it just has "damage = 15". I'd guess it's hardcoded that "damage" means hull only

Yes, damage = is the radiation amount. Set it from damage = 0 for just the warning if i remember right, all the way up to whatever you like (instant explosion amounts at 100000.........). You cannot change it from hull - but anyway - what would you change it too????

its actually more like hitpoints damage - cause it destroyes weapons and equipment too.

Interference = is the sensors version. 0 - 1 is the range, with 1 meaning scanners don't really work. If you have it set to 1, you can kill ships without them turning hostile as they cannot find/see you.

I think he was trying to make it splash against shields first.
Does that 1 thing really work against the ai? LOL i have to try that!

just telling u another failed attempt by me to create something fancy

my idea was to give a gun's munition this damage = line instead of the hull_damage and energy_damage lines.

well, makeing a gun that bypasses shields didnt work (did 0 damage) - so it was just another idea to create some cross-functionality in FL

anyway, tnx for the idea, even if it didnt work.

Thanks for the replys. Since weapons have hull damage and shield damage separate, but solars just have "damage =", I figured that somewhere in an ini file, there was a setting for "radiation_damage = hull" or something like that. And good guess, I did want radiation to hit shields instead of hull I want to make fighting in a radiation zone a shieldless affair, a la Star Trek II "sauce for he goose, Mr. Savik" lol.
I'll keep looking...

You wanna bypass shields? Ask me for it.
I bypassed all the NPC shields and class 10 shields. got myself a stink reputation as cheater.

Guardian HQ - wow, brilliant, yes - alot of people know how to do that, and yes -its cheating and pathetic. Geez - what is with you guys? Anyway - since as its for a mod.....you will recall that EVERYEONE would need the same effect modded to them as well - which would then make it not work due to everyone shooting through whichever shield types that was chosen - ergo no-one would use that sheild type....mind you they couldn't either, and it wouldn't be remotely special!!!

So in fact your "GENIUS" way of shooting through shields is still only viable for MP online cheating by ONE person. Blimey - if you thought for a second you might have actually guessed that and realised........or maybe your just trying to measure some trouser length instead????? <----sarcasm

Um, nope, don't want bypass shields. Thanks anyways. I want radiation damage to take shields out, so you can get through radiation zones without dying, but if you get caught by bad guys, you have a fairly serious problem, especially since my mod removes the use of shield batteries
It plays good though- you sure fly sharper without a magic button to save you, a lot more like Wing Commander turn and burn (even with the Artificial Idiocy MS stuck the game with). Check it out for yourself when it's done, it's coming along fairly well and should be out in a couple of weeks.

Is there anyway to limit or modify the radiation damage emitted from Omega 41's sun? I'm not really sure which value to edit or where it is.

Anyway, if I modded the damage in Omega 41 to be as damaging as in Beta , it would only work on me on MP? Or would it need to be server side?

Open Omega 41's ini (bw04), and find this:

[zone
nickname = Zone_Bw04_Abstand
ids_name = 261309
pos = -243, 0, 513
rotate = 15, 0, 0
shape = SPHERE
size = 21000
damage = 220 <-- Radiation damage (per second I think)
ids_info = 66001
spacedust = leedsdust
spacedust_maxparticles = 125
sort = 99

This is the central asteroid belt, where the radiation is serious (it would chew a starflier in 5 seconds). Other parts of the system only have 5, and behind Schutz it's lower as well

Just a random thought, and I've not bothered to try it - why don't you try removing the damage = and replace it with hull_damage and shield_damage instead? - Or whatever relevant fields seem like the correct ones to use - I didn't look up either of those two tags, so they could well also be null and void

Umm Darkstone, u pointed me to Omega 11. I mean Omega 41, the system with that big nasty rad-poising Neutron Star with the Corsair Base Leon and a Freeport in it plus the 2 wrecks, one which holds a pair of archangels.

Oops. Although it's the same format, just open the (real) Omega 41 file

Hmm I feel extremely dumb, but I can't find any radiation entry in EW03 (Omega 41 system).
