Buying space stations? possible?

is it at all possible to have small space stations that you could buy and "upgrade"?? ( ie bolt on more storage space, better defenses etc.. )

Well, nice idea but i don't think that part of the code is available to us :_(. What you might be able to do (i've been wanting to try this but I'm new and still putting my ssystems together) is to make a new faction that EVERYONE hates and the only way you can get good with them is by maybe getting an item or mission that gets you good with them? I don't really know but if you want to try to make a new faction I'll try to help you ^^ I think that once we figure how to do that then we can start haveing
intergalactic wars between players and stuff which sounds kinda cool.... it would put a new use for all those big shiny battleships ^^

if you do want to try to make a new faction my email is [email protected]

I'm fairly new, but since I started reading about this stuff I've been working on build systems and stations and stuff like that for the past 3 days, almost straight lol

well, Good Luck!

I'd been thinking about this for a while now. Well...

I haven't had much experience with messing with the DLL's, but is all the data from the DLLs loaded at the start of the game? Or is it loaded as the game is in process...

If all data is loaded at start of the game... You could possibly create a program that would run in the background... Which would link with the server...

Basically the Program would be a memory editor. If a client decided to purchase a base, server would edit the string value for the base name.... Allowing for "Vanity bases" Of course, having the base actually recognize its owner or do anything like that would be even more insanely difficult.

However if DLLs are constantly checked this wouldnt work. Unless theres someway you could do the same thing but have the program edit dlls...

But who would want to go through all the work to code a client and a server, what servers would run the actual server for it, what bugs would exist...

Just my opinions.

Allow me to help all of you with your thoughts and questions.

@Col.Jack, no it is not possible.

@Wiseman, if you want to go along these lines you could conceivably own a system and any bases in it. For instance, if I were to make a mod where I use a certain bribe (payment) to buy a system, every fighter flying in that system could be made to be your best friend and it would be the only way to be their friend. In the system you "own" you are untouched and can go to any planet or base. Perhaps without the bribe it is too difficult to reach these bases without friendly status or "ownership." And at the bases would be amazing deals.

@genius, someone figured out a way to edit information while it is loaded in memory, but it ended up being impractical. I forget why, wish I could remember. I think it had something to do with file interaction.

Wow.

Anyone remember who made the memory thing? I might be able to find a use for it...

@genius, I can't remember who posted that. It was a few months ago. The search is back up, see if you can search for it. Try the word "RAM." I'm almost certain he used that in his post, otherwise use "memory."
